Stem Cells This Morning

the sunday talk shows were discussing the stem cell debate in the Senate this morning. The concensus was that the bill would pass and that Bush would veto. Some thought that Bush was setting himself and by association the RNC as being anti-science and that this stance by him would hurt the RNC badly in the mid terms since Americans in the vast majority identify America as the ideal for progress through science.

The biggest problem with Bush, as I see it, for the future will be the IND for testing hESC's on the spinal injury patients. I think we have all seen how the FDA has been co-opted on drugs that have some distaste to the RR, i.e. the morning after pill, RU486, and even more unbelievably the HPV vaccine. We should all be prepared to start as massive as possible of a writing compaign to assure that congress puts maximum pressure on the FDA to stick to the science and stay away from the religious issues that may be brought up.
