Zanny2003,

Nio matter how you cut it, the fastest box will be running the best OS with the best backwards compatibility.

You buying and Opteron workstation with Windows64 this year? Welcome to the club!

By the time that 64 bit OS form MSFT can run ANYTHING you are running today, you'd be in a nursing home, probably.

I'm not there yet, and already we've had pre-release versions of Windows64 on AMD64 running lots of 32-bit and 64-bit applications at shows - at the same time! The fastest computer today, and the best backwards compatibility.

I can't wait to see the Photoshop benchmarks vs. anything Apple or Intel can put up!

By the way, what do you think of the fact that Adobe is dropping support for some key applications on the Mac? How does that affect backwards compatibility?

P.S.: I'm reading your Panther reference posts on the Apple site now (thanks). Funny concept of compatibility you have. Looks like the software writers were screwed on this one! Panther is going to break all the device drivers out there.

This technical note explains issues that some developers may see when using their drivers in Panther or later. These changes were necessitated by a combination of hardware and underlying OS changes; however, you may see problems resulting from the changes even on existing hardware.

Whassup with that???

And it still won't be a 64-bit OS.
