Does anyone else find it absolutely ABSURD that a hedge fund can challenge the validity of patents when they are not even part of a suit?

I find this quote the most interesting

As for the inter partes reviews, PTAB had approved Mangrove's request in October, rejecting VirnetX's argument that the hedge fund's petitions should be denied as an improper attempt to manipulate the tech firm's stock price.

Seems the game of attacking NPEs is alive and well. Apple and Google don't even have to ask their buddies for help!
