Nutritional deficiency is now the norm. There are many places, particularly in the inner city where you can only get processed foods. Nutritious, whole foods simply are not available for the masses. Eating a well-balanced diet takes time, planning and resources that many do not have. I'm not referring to money, but the physical effort required. The elderly in particular are looking for convenience.

While I agree that a wholesome diet would be preferred, if this were even reasonably practical our society wouldn't be suffering from pandemics of obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), Vitamin D deficiency, etc...
