What you do not get and it proves how little you understand the region, is that Syria and Iraq are absolutetly NOTHING like Afghanistan as far as difficult terrain, fighting will of the people and tactical experience of the leaders. Isis will run and fold just as fast as Sadaam Husseins regime ran and folded once actually confronted by an even bigger bully. Most likely even faster.
