That's what happens when you own an entire portfolio of ultra high div junk like NYMT. MREITs may be OK for spicing up a portfolio's yield and providing a bit of diversity for bear market protection, but as a rule anything paying over 8% yield is a sucker bet. That's certainly been the case here for the past three years.
I shun mREITS altogether which has worked out well for me.
