You don't hide your leftiness any more than Navy hides his rightiness. It takes a village (as someone has already said).

There are "canards" in any newspaper; NY Times, Wash. Post, or Wash. Times; pick your journal: canards everywhere. I call that freedom of the press. You can either read 'em all and laugh (like I do) or pick a side, join, and push your agenda (like most people do).

And that's okay too.
