Spider silk has attracted great interest in recent years due to its superior mechanical properties for biomedical, military and other potential applications. However, due to the inability of post-expression fiber formation systems to generate spider silk proteins fibers with native properties, a new approach is being developed by replacing the silkworm silk genes with synthetic spider silk DNA.

This is THE Randy Lewis admitting defeat for all of his goats and alfalfa and most explicitly for his new spin off company Araknitek and by extension ALL the spider Goo producers (Amsilk, Bolt, Spiber (JP), Spiber (SE), ......) and since he is locked out of using PigyBAC and Zinc Fingers by KBLB's exclusive contracts attempting to start along KBLB's silkworm path using a new not-quite-ready-for-prime-time Transposon tool set.

This is the leading voice of KBLB's competition throwing in the towel and trying to play catch-up 5 years late!
