I can't speak for Barton but the Tbred-B 1700+ is partially unlocked. As in the multipliers are unlocked but limited to the 5 to 12.5 range. You don't have to play with the bridges at all to take a 1700+ up to a 2100+. If you want to clock it higher you need a faster FSB (still no bridge work) to get it to it's limits. You would only need to do bridge work on it if you plan to go into exotic overclocking with something other than air cooling.
