In a stunning defeat for the White House, Democrats in the House on Friday voted down a measure creating an assistance program for workers displaced by free trade agreements -- throwing final passage of the proposal in jeopardy until at least next week.

The idea that we can pass distasteful legislation as long as we create a program to dole out taxpayer's money to those who perceive a hurt from that legislation is absolutely disgusting.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.
