Maybe it's the cheap memory I bought?

its definetly the cheap memory ! Even a 533 b steping will
get you close to 3 GHZ with a v0ltage increase to 1.7v. Most
good quality memory comes with heat spreaders (some new
exotic memory form geil does not have heat spreaders. My 2.4c
intially would only go to 3.0 Ghz, I deciede to take out the
corsair ddr 400 and try kingston hyperX, hello 3.3 Ghz and
voltage set at 1.65 v. Yes I known increasing the voltage
cab be deadly, I will be happy if it survives untill prescott
comes out.
