Can not speak for the world, but here is how it works over in much of Asia.
"Counterfeiting" means selling the copy under the same name and packaging as the real product.
The real drug sells for a lot. Virtually nobody sells counterfeits at those prices, so everybody knows they are not the real mfgs product. They just buy in hope that a cheap knock-off is good enough.
Then you have have one or two levels of generics. As a rule the Indian brands tend to have more respect, the Chinese brands not so.
A US/EU branded generic will do well.
As an aside, a counterfeit of such might be an interesting problem for the industry.
