Iran Willing to Negotiate

Teheran softened its stance on nuke program talks over the last weekend. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said if no preliminary conditions are imposed on Iran, he will consider proposals of foreign ministers of six nations, drawn up in Vienna last Thursday. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, however, threatened to halt the oil supply from the country should Washington made “a single mistake about Iran.”
Iranian President said Saturday Teheran would need some time to asses the offer of UN Security Council permanent members and Germany. The six nations suggest that Iran immediately stops enriching uranium in exchange for a number of incentives. Saturday’s statement evidently marks the softening of Iran’s stance.

The Iranian president, however, reiterated that the talks will go through only if no preliminary conditions are set out for Iran. Ahmadnijed underscored againe his country's right to nuclear technology and power. EU’s foreign policy chief Xavier Solana is to present the incentives to Iran in Teheran today. Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad promised to reveal all details of the offer and possible threatened sanctions after the meeting.

Iran’s spiritual leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, however, was not that upbeat and threatened to cut oil exports to the United States if “a single mistake” is made about Iran, referring to possible sanctions against the country. Iran is the fourth-largest oil exporter. It also controls the Strait of Hormuz that connects the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean, the spot of major oil supplies.
