the terminology does get confusing, particularly as it has been variously expressed by both PYMX and now CTIX in the literature, in press releases.

Richard Scott used this: "non-peptidic, fully synthetic mimics of the Host Defense Proteins as systemic and topical antibiotics" (mouthful)

here is another article that describes the MOA circa 2008
http://www.newswise.com/articles/data-on-novel-antibiotic-drugs-that-mimic-humans-natural-defense-mechanisms-presented-at-icaac-meeting

and here is a fuller description from a PYMX 2012 SBIR Grant Award (O-M)

Host defense proteins (HDPs)are cationic and amphiphilic components of the mammalian innate immune system that serve as a primary response in the prevention of bacterial infection. We are developing non- peptidic mimics of HDPs, capturing the structural and biological properties ofHDPs within the framework of smaller inexpensive oligomers. These small synthetic oligomers are less expensive to produce, have better tissue distribution than HDPs, and are easier to fine-tune structurally to improve activity and minimize toxicity. Exclusive of their antimicrobial activity, HDPs have been shown to possess immune modulatory and anti- inflammatory activities.

to my ear, something like this works: "/non-peptide/ synthetic small-molecules modeled on the body's natural immune system" OR "/non-peptide/ synthetic small molecules that mimic the activity of the body's innate antimicrobial response"

looking forward to all the pending news. ECCMID for starters.
