As for institutional buying, perhaps fund managers are taking initial positions so that their half year end shows they are in stocks that have advanced and know they'll have to dump others in the general markets after the window dressing they are giving to their portfolios up until June 30th. Be careful though as last year both gold and the general markets tanked into July.
