That is exactly why they would sell. If the sell the company and they own 10-15 million shares and they get a buyout offer of 2-3 dollars a share, don't you think he will take the 10-45 million pay day? Plus being the CEO that brought it to market with now a ridiculous resume to possibly become the CFO at someone like AMGEN? Of course they will. The whole reason to start a company is to one day sell it for an extravagant amount.
