ISF operations find success throughout Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq (May 19, 2006)– During a weekly press briefing May 14, Multi-National Force-Iraq Spokesman Brig. Gen. Thomas Wright, described a growing Iraqi Security Forces, and detailed the success of several operations aimed at derailing anti-Iraqi forces capabilities.
“Today, nearly 254,000 trained and equipped Iraqi Security Forces are providing security for the citizens of Iraq,” said Brig. Gen. Wright. “Of the 480 operations conducted in Iraq last week, nearly 30 percent of the Iraqi company-level and above missions were independent. That means they were Iraqi planned, Iraqi conducted, and Iraqi led.”
The general said another 45 percent of the operations were combined, coalition and ISF. “So when you add that together … 75 percent of the total missions this week involved Iraqi Security Forces.”
CAMP TAJI, Iraq – Engineers from the 1st and 6th Iraqi Army Divisions look over their certificates during an April 20 graduation ceremony. The 46 Iraqi army “jundis,” Arabic for soldiers, graduated from Phase II Engineer training.
