Re: I didn't realize that HP-UX, OpenVMS, IRIX, AIX, z/OS, z/VM, VSE/ESA and Solaris were all being ported to AMD64

z/OS? In the context of someone shopping for a PC at Circuit City?

Some games have already been ported to X86-64, Windows is in the process of being ported to X86-64. We both know what I was referring to, your pretending to be stupid, regardless of how effectively you do it, wastes everyone's time.

Why not bring up embedded chips running printers and RAID cards? Some of those are 64-bit - and, like Intel's i860 before it, I think that will be where Itanium winds up, with those apps being ported to IA-64, while they never make it to Opteron.

Furthermore, HP has hinted that OpenVMS is being ported to Opteron, and the apps that matter for the HP-UX, OpenVMS, IRIX, AIX, z/OS, z/VM, VSE/ESA platforms, Enterprise Linux, Oracle, DB2, etc. are pretty much available or in beta for X86-64 now - they're the first ones to ship!
