As I understand it, the company is explaining the reverse stock split as something which they think is good for shareholders, for the stock to appeal to institutional investors. Some people are saying, however, that reverse stock splits usually work out poorly.

Is this just a difference of opinion? Would the company have any reason to do a reverse stock split other than to help promote the stock? They are stockholders too and certainly don't want the value to go down.
