Too late to help you now, but the only coincident indicator I know of that was worth its salt was the JCCI. The guy who developed it made so much money shorting dot-coms off and on in '00-'02 that he retired and bought an island in French Polynesia. If you're not familiar with it, JCCI stood for Jim Cramer Contrarian Index.
