SEOUL, Korea – November 20, 2014 – Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., today announced the launch of its Ultra High-Definition (UHD) monitors to feature Advanced Micro Devices’ (AMD) FreeSync technology. The partnership will see AMD’s screen tear eliminating technology applied to all new Samsung UHD monitors from 2015.
"This strategic partnership with AMD will delight gamers and creative professionals who demand the most precise imaging possible and a seamless viewing experience,” said Seok-Gi Kim, Senior Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “With AMD, we will continue to develop cutting-edge technology and help advance the industry with innovative products like these displays that stay in perfect sync.”
In combining AMD’s FreeSync technology with Samsung’s UHD monitors, common technical problems such as screen stutter, which can arise from differences between the computer frame drawn and the one displayed on-screen, are removed. The new monitors offer gamers and CAD/CAM users with high bitrate screens the ability to enjoy a smoother high-quality viewing experience, and enable uninterrupted screening even under low bitrate conditions.
Samsung’s FreeSync-supported UHD monitors will be available from March 2015, starting with the UD590 (23.6-inch and 28-inch models) and UE850 (23.6-inch, 27-inch and 31.5-inch models). This technology will be expanded across the entire Samsung UHD range.
The partnership was officially announced at AMD’s Future of Compute event in Singapore. The event saw Samsung deliver a keynote speech to outline its vision for the monitor industry that will be complemented by this and future collaborative efforts with AMD.
This collaboration strengthens the overall technology offering of Samsung’s UHD monitors and its growing presence in the marketplace
