Especially when the real inflation number is 36% over the past 6 years (per methodologies use in 1990) and close to 60% using 1980 methodologies. If you want an in depth discussion on how and why changes to the CPI were made, look up John Williams, his work is solid.

Also look into Jim Grant's work (Grant's Interest Rate Observer). It's about as technical as it gets and Jim has forgotten more about economics than 99.9% of economists know.

Luckily we're all long CTIX so inflation won't matter to us in the long run :)
