My grandfather who died 6 yrs back at 89 use to chuckle about social security. In the first few years, he got back every penny he ever put in and after that he was just getting a freebie. He had worked hard, was a millionaire, didn't need it. No, didn't leave any of the ....15? grandkids anything. Just divided it evenly among his 3 kids for them to decide what to do with it. My dad is a millionaire and a cheapskate. I knew better than to expect to see even the first penny. I wasn't disappointed. <g> If I hadn't gone to help clean out the house, I probably wouldn't have even got the few momentos I managed to grab.
Now I solved the social security problem for myself. Since I don't ever expect to get much from it, I stop paying it. If you don't have income, you don't pay. I'm all capital gains. I like to think of it as I didn't bother to wait for congress to allow separte retirement accounts and did my own. <g> There's ways to get around just about anything.
