The great news is that you won't have to do either. It's a new day coming.....oops, actually, it's already here. : )
There IS a risk from low hemoglobin caused by anemia. It makes the heart work harder pumping, since there is less oxygen being transported.
It can also be the fault of doctors who do not monitor the patients hemoglobin. I was anemic, but on the highest dose I just felt like I was working at a higher elevation. I never hit the low score which dictated mandatory stop/reduction of RBV.
It is also going to be a big change in riba consumption; most people will only need 12 weeks and also may be able to dose reduce.
I knew that the doctor could probably lower my RBV without risk so I requested it.
Another nice aspect of the newer drugs are that they often can be cut back, dosage reduced without impacting negatively on SVR rates. (this was also true for Incivek and Victrelis)
You will be amazed at the difference in treating now. You'll barely know you are on treatment.
I was TX naive, so I don't know the hell that you went through with your past TX. Some of it was just the extreme duration of the treatment.
Wishing you the best of luck on upcoming treatment. I don't have to wish you luck on the GILD investment; it is very close to a given that it will do well, and IMHO should do well for years.
