Ebola patient who used bio-filtration device reportedly free of virus

Caregivers notched a win in their attempts to effectively treat a patient in the throes of with the Ebola virus. Use of a first-in-class bio-filtration device on the patient, who was reported to be suffering from multiple organ failure, proved successful.

Doctors at Germany's Frankfurt University Hospital said that a Ugandan doctor, previously disclosed to have received therapy with the device, called a Hemopurifier, is no longer infected with the virus and appears to be heading for a full recovery, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The Hemopurifier, from Aethlon Medical, is designed to target the rapid elimination of viruses and immunosuppressive proteins from the circulatory system of infected individuals, according to the company. The patient was administered the therapy through special approval of the country's Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices.

Aethlon will disclose a venue for a public presentation to report the treatment data captured by the Hemopurifier in the coming days, stated Aethlon founder and CEO Jim Joyce.

The company further disclosed it is preparing to initiate US clinical studies of Hemopurifier therapy based on FDA's approval of an Investigational Device Exemption previously submitted by the company.
