"But UN weapons inspectors were only recently let back into Iraq."
And that was out of the goodness of Saddam's heart, right?? It had nothing to do with an army threatening to destroy him.
"They said they needed more time to complete their inspection."
And just how much more time - the french and the russians had already said that they would support no resolution that involved force, so Saddam had no reason to cooperate with the "inspectors" -- and he did not. I cannot believe you still believe that the inspectors could have ever found any significant amount of WMD's - please address my analogy of California.
"The US is saying the same thing now after enormous criticism and claiming they knew where the weapons were....."
Ummm, do you think there might be a bit of difference in the potential for a good ultimate outcome when we are in control of Iraq instead of Saddam???
"Congression approval is necessary for war."
And it was granted - overwhelmingly.
"It appears the info provided may have been eroneous."
Ummm, get back to me when you can prove that, not before. All you have are totally unsupported allegations that even the democrat leaders give no credence to.
"Bush has ultimate responsibility as Commander in Chief."
Yep, and doing a damn fine job as far as I can tell - despite the whinings from the far left.
"It is militarily impossible to assemble a large force for attack like that and just keep them sitting there forever - they had to be used or brought home." -- mlsoft
"you can't be serious with that one??... Chitt happens for bad info and, heck, we were in the neighborhood for war??... I guess Summer in Baghdad is not a good time for war..."
I have no idea what you are saying with that one - hard to respond. Ask any military person if it is possible to keep such a large force at military readiness in such conditions - 120 degree heat, sandstorms, sitting around - and I suppose it would have been fine with you to keep them over there like that and away from their homes and families - waiting on the UN to do nothing and for permission from france and friends - none of which would ever be forthcoming. france, germany, and russia all had their own business interests that meant they would never, under any circumstances, let them agree to take action against saddam. Why can you not understand that??? It's all about oil.
