Uniting the Twelvers and the Salafis, these people have been at war since the Prophets death but somehow Bush is bringing them together. There has never been a pan Islamic movement. Saudi Arabia and Iran (Arab vs Persian, Semitic vs Indo European) have never gotten along. Yet you can hear in the Saudi rhetoric now the suggestion that maybe Iran isn't so bad.

Already in 1921 the British brain trust meeting in Cairo, Gertrude, Lawrence, Churchill etc, knew the danger in Ibn Saud and the Wahabi movement. By 1934 Aramco with the help of Philby one of the most diabolical figures in all of English Intelligence had not only ignored that foreboding but had allowed Mecca and Medina to once more fall into the hands of fundamental extremists.

The hasemite, who had actually agreed to the Jewish Homeland, were by then pawns of a whole other game that was doomed to failure. French Syria, and Christian Lebanon are just two examples.

Note that you can see in Iraq right now the former (evil) Ottoman vilayets of Mosul Bahgdad and Basra. Kurds ruling Kurds in the north, Sunni Arabs ruling Sunni Arab in the middle and Shia, Persians ruling Shia in the south. It is exactly the Federalism of the Iraq constitution that we see so many arguing for today. And lest we forget the Persians were at all times fighting the Turks.

Or something like that.
