You can look at this anyway you want. If you want to stop the missiles that are fired everyday into Israel then putting one of the guys who is associated with that activity in charge of stopping it just might get the job done. Same with the border crossings.
Creating the situation in which Hamas is in charge will either lead to Hamas being able to control the situation, or it will lead to a complete deterioration of the situation.

As with Iran no one will take Hamas at its word, except for when they can prove that Hamas is 'evil' then they will take Hamas at its word.
