Just for the record I think he lied. I think a decision was made to go after Saddam and subsequently a case was constructed to foster that decision. I think a plan was hatched by Pearle and Wolfie and the like to reconstruct the Middle East long before 911. Taking out Saddam was step one in that plan. 911 surprised them as much as it did everyone else. They were not prepared for it and they had failed to heed the warnings they were given by the outgoing administration. They had to revert to a CIA plan done up in the Clinton Administration for the invasion of Afghanistan.
Having done the Afghan war they returned to plan one. They accused Saddam of hiding "terrorists" he had Abu Nadal killed. They accused Saddam of hiding WMD. Azziz denied it over and over, they did not care.
Reconstructing the Middle East for strategic and economic interests is the plan, was the plan and will be the plan. Putting the military out front to protect and enhance the Corporate interests of the USA is what they are doing. That is almost exactly how Mussolini defined fascism.
I think most of the world understands this. Many are trying to reconcile themselves to it because there is nothing they can do about it. Some will try and oppose it for political and economic reasons.
