If SPX is coiling in the retrenchment trading range (currently @50% short-term retrenchment), wouldn't you suspect that it's susceptible to retreat further down before heading back higher ?

IMHO, from this morning low to current high looks corrective, comparing to the late afternoon yesterday's whoosh.
