Fear of the so-called "Iranian Shi'ite Crescent" From Tehran to Palestine i think Mubarak and his crew's underlying fear.
Shi'ism as a force pretty well ends at border to Israel, Egypt is a composite of secular Sunni down to fierce anti-Shi'ite fanaticsm.
Regards Al Queda and Iran one must realize is about as easy as having an alliance Al Queda and Iran than between Ulster Defense League and the Real IRA.
i have to have proof, to believe otherwise.
And this intensifies as you get to the Al Queda west/south of Iraq.(Zawahiri, is a fanatic Sunni Salafist; but he could recognize the destructiveness of Shia/Sunni tension---but there is no trust here)
People might want to factor out the extremist Al Queda as being oppositional to Shi'ites as being a "myth created by Washington", the fact is it is NOT a myth.
You need go no further than Muqtada al Sadr, who does and as had members of Al Queda on his 2 kill list for sometime.
Do the Iraqi Mahdist target Sunnis, if they are Al Queda or hardcore Baathist, they kill them, if they can---it is an issue of survival--BUT Sadr believes stronly the the U.S. has been backing the hardcore Baathist and Al Queda in their attacks on the Shi'ites; and we have real cause to suspect this is so, but on top secret /Delta Force level only( and it is obvious it is in U.S. interest to support fanatics in opposition to Shi'ites)
I do not believe the regulars participate in this or even have knowledge of this.
