i dont think its either the schools or the students.
its both.
1) there is absolutly no demand for scholarship.
2) there is a demand to make things nice, to make learning fun and a game, and help self esteem.
Not bad ideals.
but it translates into making no demands on kids to think and make logical connections, it translates into substituting videos for book reports, it translates as not having to get the answer in math, just sort of you know , kind of knowing how to get the answer,
and it translates as substituting spanish for english in schools when english is the textbook of scholarhip in most foreign countries.
When the average Albainian 6th grader knows more math ans science than an American, its bad news.
