Gemini signs fabrication contract with Access Pipeline
2006-03-28 10:03 ET - News Release
Mr. Robert Brookwell reports
Gemini Corp. has signed a multimillion-dollar fabrication contract with Access Pipeline Inc.
The contract between Access and Gemini's subsidiary, Kinetic Process Systems Ltd., is for the supply of fabricated skid and building modules for a 340-kilometre pipeline being constructed to link the northeastern Alberta oil sands to the Edmonton market hub. The dual pipeline system will bring diluents to the SAGD project sites from Fort Saskatchewan and transport blended bitumen to refineries, export pipelines, and to the announced industrial facility upgrades in the Edmonton area. Additional transportation capacity and access to the Edmonton marketing hub are needed to manage the increasing volume of bitumen produced from the oil sands. In addition, access to multiple sources of diluents is required by various oil sands projects for transporting the produced bitumen.
This project will consume the majority of Kinetic's fabrication capacity into the fourth quarter of 2006. Gemini is also anticipating that further opportunities to participate in this project will be available as additional phases are released over the coming months.
"We are extremely pleased to be a participant in this important project," said Carl Johnson, Gemini's president and chief executive officer. "It fits well with our strategy to expand our involvement in the multibillion-dollar investments planned for the Edmonton/Fort Saskatchewan area to support the development of the vast oil sands deposits in the Fort McMurray region."
