ramyac: Very few things are completely black and white. Or similarly 100 per cent true or false.

Some of edig's patents may overlap or be similar to some of Apple's technology, for example, and therefore there might have been some slight merit to the Apple suit--leading them to settle for an amount not in the millions of dollars.

But if 90+ per cent of edig's lawsuits were baseless, for example, and led to them getting some chump change from companies eager to settle and avoid legal costs, then it would be appropriate to call them a patent troll because that is at the heart of what they do.
