Settlements are agreed to and "won" by the plaintiff so that the defendants "don't have to continue with litigation".
This statement is a perfect expression of the goal of a patent extortionist, which is to file meritless lawsuits and get defendants to pay cheap settlements.
If defendants pay the extortion (settlement) in a meritless patent infringement lawsuit in order to avoid MUCH higher costs of defense, a patent extortionist considers it a "win" no matter how low the settlement.
Congratulations to Fred Falk and Handal & Associates for so many cheap settlement "wins" -- 22 in FYE 3/31/14!
Unfortunately the EDIG share price tanked during those all those "wins."
