The IPO has been delayed because the company has sold fewer devices and procedures than expected.
The shortfall has been due in part to physician resistance to the length of the procedure, which is about 90 minutes. Thermage has redesigned the radio-frequency probe to emit more radiation per pulse, thereby shortening the length of the overall procedure.
Moreover, there are anecdotal stories of a few patients getting burned when docs turned the juice up too high.
Whether there is a place in the market for Thermage as more than a tiny niche player remains to be seen. As the dermal fillers from various companies get better and better, the argument for Thermage may become less and less compelling. Regards, Dew
