IMO it's not a matter of 'standing behind your work'. At this point that 'work' and conclusions were obviously wrong. It's a matter of admitting mistakes and learning from them.

I can't put any trust into people who are never 'wrong'. So I'm always interested in seeing how a guy handles that situation, so I can better gauge know how much credence to put in what he says tomorrow.

As a great man once said, "An error does not become a mistake until you refuse to acknowledge and correct it."
