Quite right, ergo.
I didn''t know that until i saw a cable TV show recently about how weather had a major impact on the history of Europe.

The Vikings were a major force, warring even into the Mediterrean and along Northern Africa.

i had known that Normandy, stood for NorseMan but not much more:)

I had asked myself, why did Viking activity come to a halt.
And then this show basically made your points, the last warm period ended and it got quite chill--it just got too damn cold:)

i saw also recently a show on Eric the Red's settlement in GreenLand.

One thing is clear, this planet has extraordinary weather fluctuation.

There is geologic time record that in area of 55million years ago, the surface of the the land virtually became a burned out dustbowl.

The vast majority of all species of life on land vanished.

One theory, the oceans of the earth were belching out MASSIVE amounts of Methane that had been generated by bacterium.

Plus we now know the earth's rotational axis is not a constant, but is variable, and this is another factor in the earth's volatile weather history .

Global warming is it a cycle we can't stop or our we causing it???( i go with both the possible answer)
What we can say, the massive acceleration of humans burning hydrocarbons and destroying vast areas of the tropical forests world wide, is not making this warming pattern any less likely to cease, and it is at minimum a quite significant accelerant to what if also the earth is going to another warm cycle(CO2 and/or Methane levels fluctuations do factor heavily in warming and cooling cycles)
Put the two together, and you get climate change onto a faster track.

This hurricane season, will be of major interest.
We had 3 mere tropical depressions forming just south of the Bahamas that then moved into the Gulf of Mexico, with all three exploding to category 5(Katrina/Rita and Wilma)

The first Hurricane to enter the Gulf of Mexico this year its' behavior will being watched intensely.
Has the Gulf of Mexico in fact formed the depths of warm waters beyond levels known in modern times.
The darkest scenario is, yes the Gulf of Mexico loop is warming to greater depths in a real upward trend.
If so, a Category 6, could hit the Gulf Coast some day.
All this is just stuff i throw out on the table and we then sit back and see what happens.Max
