Why would a distributor commit to purchasing $40M of a product that nobody has ever heard of?"

I actually had wondered about that myself quite a while back when I was first playing this stock. Only thing I could come up with was, they gave them a heck of a good price for it if they agree to buy x amount of it. That would be normal business tactics. I guess we will see.
