OT. 50 plus. My pet peave is scientific illiteracy... From the media and TV on down to the general public, understanding of basic science is sadly lacking. It almost seems like misconceptions are encouraged in an effort to keep the general public ignorant on topics of importance. It wouldn't surprise me if a poll showed that a majority of Americans believed that our ancestors shared their home territories with dinosaurs or that gorillas are monkeys. I'm not saying that the general public is stupid, I'm just saying that it seems that there are forces in the media (in it's various forms) that perpetuate false information in an effort to keep people uninformed and miseducated.
