3Saints - You're right, but not for the reasons you think. In the short term ACA is actually a highly targeted income redistribution mechanism...to enable the first big step toward a single-payer system. Like any incremental system there are winners/losers while those to be impacted the most...the health care bureaucracy from doctors to pharma CEOs...appear to remain mostly unscathed.
The transition from purely market-based profit/loss medical 'care' to single-payer is going to be a real bastard due entirely to the egalitarianism upon which it is based. Despite America's foundation ethos we hate equality. Our entire system is built upon privilege accessed thru increased financial status. Single-payer constitutes the most basic violation of our fee-based society imaginable.
In a nutshell, ACA is a bold step away from privilege and toward universal access to good medical care for all.
