acrazjo: Just imagine though when it's 600+ stores coupled w/ a major media blitz.
I can't see them doing this w/o a media campaign to shortly follow. IMO, they need to capitalize on the online rental surge now and not wait until next Holiday season. If they wait until next holiday season to do a media campaign, IMO, they'll not get nearly as much of a potential gain in market share at that point as they could w/ prior "awareness" (to use gold-leade-r's favorite word).
IMO, many families who may plan on getting a game system for the next holiday season would be much more swayed to get one from CC if they knew PRIOR to their decision to buy of where that they can also get a killer deal on renting gameZ 'N Flix together (saving them $$'s) rather than separately (costing them more $$') through BestBuy and NetFlix/Gamefly. CC would win out on not only the GnF subs that would be garnered through their stores but they would could also seriously put a dent in BestBuy's game and DVD system sales. Couple that w/ CC's 110% "best price guarantee" and IMO, they can't lose.
This year and next could be CC's turning point to possibly, finally creep back to that #1 spot in the electronics business w/ GnF being a vital part of that strategy.
Just makes smart business sense to me.
Think about it...to stop and change gears now, at this point (by killing the rollout and going w/ another rental company or ditching the whole idea) would be like not only shooting themselves in the foot but blowing the whole limb off. It'll never happen. THIS IS A GOOOOOOOOO!!!!! (IMO)
