Barak 013 requests permit for NIS 500,000 WiMAX test

“The technology is a cheap and effective alternative infrastructure for communications operators.”

Aviva Kroll 2 Nov 05 18:37

Communications company Barak 013 has submitted a request to conduct a test of WiMAX technology in five industrial zones in the Gush Dan region: Herzliya, Ramat Hahayal (Atidim) in Tel Aviv, and Kiryat Arie and Segula in Petah Tikva, and Afek in Rosh Ha’Ayin. Barak said that the test would cost over NIS 500,000, and that it was preparing to buy equipment for it.
Barak’s WiMAX technology is based on equipment purchased from Alvarion (Nasdaq: ALVR; TASE: ALVR) operating on the GHz 3.6- GHz 3.8 frequency band.

Barak added that it had thoroughly tested the technology over the past year. The company found that it was a cheap and effective alternative infrastructure for communications operators interested in alternative methods for medium-bandwidth and broadband transmission over tens of kilometers. According to Barak, WiMAX is one alternative for wireline access for customers. The company said that the technology was reliable, and suitable for areas near the center of the country.
