Third Quarter Results
02/13/2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
e.DIGITAL REPORTS IMPROVED Q3 FISCAL 2007 RESULTS
(SAN DIEGO, CA, – February 13, 2007) – e.Digital Corporation (OTC: EDIG), a leading producer of proprietary secure digital video technology and products, and owner of a portfolio of important flash memory patents, today reported improved results for the third fiscal 2007 quarter ended December 31, 2006. For the third quarter, e.Digital reported total revenues of $1.30 million a 1,035% increase from total revenues of $115,000 for the third quarter of fiscal 2006. Revenue for the third quarter included the first commercial quantity shipments of the Company’s new eVU mobile entertainment system to in-flight entertainment (IFE) customers and the delayed shipment of a digEplayer™ order.
e.Digital reported an operating profit of $226,000 for the three months ended December 31, 2006, as compared to an operating loss of $515,000 for the three months ended December 31, 2005. Contributing to the operating profit was $713,000 of revenue from the digEplayer order, the costs of which were recorded as an impairment in the prior year due to uncertainty of delivery from a contract supplier. Operating costs increased from $524,000 to $714,000 primarily due to non-cash stock-based compensation costs, increased professional fees and increased sales and marketing costs associated with the commercial launch of eVU. Net loss available to common stockholders for the third fiscal quarter of 2007 was $(0.00) per basic diluted share as compared to $(0.00) per basic diluted share for the same period last year.
For the nine months ended December 31, 2006, the Company reported total revenues of $1.34 million, a 57% decrease from total revenues of $3.10 million for the nine months of fiscal 2006. Revenues for the fiscal 2006 period included three quarters of product sales while the latest nine-month period included only one quarter of product sales as the Company was transitioning from the old digEplayer model to the new eVU system. e.Digital reported an operating loss of $1.34 million for the nine months ended December 31, 2006 as compared to an operating loss of $1.32 million for the nine months ended December 31, 2005. For the nine months ended December 31, 2006, net loss available to common stockholders was $(0.01) per basic diluted share as compared to $(0.01) per basic diluted share for the same period last year.
e.Digital also reported that it has backlog and shipments this quarter to date of approximately $900,000 with further orders and shipments expected this quarter. The Company is generating new business through direct sales efforts and through distributors such as U.K.-based Mezzo Movies. e.Digital also participates in pilot and trial programs and responds to formal requests for proposal from companies in the healthcare and travel and leisure industries. e.Digital is currently participating in two eVU trials with major airlines. One of the trial partners is among the world’s largest airlines.
The Company reported it improved its financial position during the quarter ended December 31, 2006 through:
· The conversion of the $1.30 million balance of 12% Subordinated Convertible Promissory Notes previously due December 31, 2006 into equity. At December 31, 2006 no such notes remained outstanding.
· The exchange of two 15% Unsecured Promissory Notes previously due December 31, 2006 for $970,752 in a 7.5% Convertible Subordinated Three Year Term Note, payable monthly, due November 30, 2009. The Company issued 500,000 shares of restricted common stock to extend the term and reduce the interest rate on the debt.
· The conversion of a customer deposit obligation of $713,000 into revenue upon delivery of related digEplayer products.
“We are pleased and encouraged by the growing acceptance of our new eVU mobile entertainment system by regional and international airlines and by the in flight entertainment industry (IFE),” said Will Blakeley, e.Digital’s president and chief technical officer. “We are building on the progress made last quarter by growing our eVU business, diversifying our customer base, and pursuing the monetization of our patent portfolio.”
“While the last twelve months have been challenging, we are pleased to be in full production and shipping what we believe to be the best in class portable IFE product,” continued Blakeley. “We have worked diligently on product design and with our suppliers to improve margins while providing value and utility to our customers.”
Blakeley concluded, “Our strategy is to rapidly grow our eVU revenues through increased marketing efforts and to exploit through licensing our important portfolio of patents related to the use of flash memory in portable devices. We look forward to announcing new eVU business and portfolio-related IP developments this quarter and throughout the year.”

Anybody notice this phrase in the release today? (see bold)
“Alaska Airlines’ follow-on order of APS’ digEplayer demonstrates the growing market acceptance of our personal video technology platform (PVP),” added Fred Falk, e.Digital’s president and CEO. “The team at APS has done a tremendous job getting the digEplayer off the ground. We are excited to be working with them in building this version of our PVP into an industry-leading standard.”
Asks the question, how many versions are there?

If this is a done deal, why no public announcement by Edig? Can someone confirm with Robert?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
E.DIGITAL ANNOUNCES EXPANDED ORDERS OF APS’ DIGEPLAYER™
BY ALASKA AIRLINES
Successful ‘Beta’ Test Culminates in Alaska Airlines’
Adoption of the digEplayer 5500™
(San Diego, CA – February 10, 2004) – e.Digital Corporation (OTC: EDIG) today announced expanded orders of APS’ digEplayer™ by Alaska Airlines. After the successful ‘beta’ test of APS’ e.Digital powered digEplayer 5500, Alaska has agreed to purchase up to 6,000 additional units. e.Digital expects to realize several million dollars in revenue over the next five years from the APS/Alaska Airlines orders through initial sales of the units, refurbishment fees and other services.
APS’ digEplayer 5500 will continue to provide portable in-flight entertainment (IFE) to Alaska Airlines passengers for at least the next five years. Customer acceptance and demand, durability, ease of distribution, and quality of picture and sound were cited as the criteria by which the innovative system was selected.
“The successful completion of the “beta” test with Alaska Airlines has been an important validation of our digEplayer 5500. This test also proves that for the first time, carriers can have a full video on demand (VOD) system without the expensive retrofitting of aircraft,” noted Bill Boyer, president and CEO of APS. “e.Digital’s technology has surpassed the rigorous testing of Alaska and it’s passengers. With logistics support from Rockwell Collins and premium content from Twentieth Century Fox, and others, we are well positioned to meet the needs of Alaska and its passengers.”
“Alaska Airlines’ endorsement of APS’ digEplayer clearly affirms the value of our proprietary personal video technology platform,” added Fred Falk, e.Digital’s president and CEO. “APS and e.Digital are actively pursuing orders with additional airlines and opportunities in other markets.”
APS’ digEplayer offers passengers fresh content selections, including first run movies not yet available on video, classic films, television programming, music and other entertainment options.

AUSTONIA:
You do not have to slide the on/off switch to off then to on to restart. Just press play and it brings up the main menu with an option to resume exactly where you left off in the track when you stopped playing it. I posted this here:
http://www.investorshub.com/boards/read_msg.asp?message_id=2025662
jay
Guess I'm just slow on the uptake. Except that the Treo does not have a separate on/off switch. You hold down the stop button on the Treo to turn it off. When you press the play button to turn it on it takes you back to the track you were playing. When you press play again it starts playing at the beginning of the track, not where you left off. The Gateway resumes where ever in the track you left off or you have the choice of switching to another album from the same screen. A big advantage if you are interrupted long enough for the auto shut off to kick in while playing a song. I don't want to listen to the whole song again, I want to take up where I left off. Especially if I'm in the middle of a 30 minute comedy track.
Jay
Austonia: I think I discovered why there is no hole in the carrying case for the on/off button. If you are playing a song and hit pause, the player will turn off after the amount of time set in the "Auto Power Timer" has expired. To turn it back on you just hit the play button which brings up the main menu and gives you the option of resuming the last track where you left off or selecting another album.
I think that this is a pretty neat feature and don't remember if my Odyessy had the same ability.
Jay
My player has the same alphabetical order problem. I thought I had a work around but didn't.
I hate to admit it, but I think this is a big flaw. I have several Broadways shows on my player. Playing the prologe in the middle makes no sense. The songs in Cats have a logical progression that tells a story as does Chicago. On my Firesign Theater albums, the skits are made to move from one situation connected to another situation. These examples are put into a specific order for a reason.
On my Beatles One Album or the Best of the Beach Boys, I don't find it quite so crucial.
Jay
austonia: When I inadvertently transfered all of my tracks with Windows Media Player at once, I had the same alphabetical listing. I deleted all of them and then draged and dropped folders in Windows explorer to the player, did a reconcile, and now they are in the proper order. I haven't had a chance to play with it enough to see if there is another way.
edit: by the way, maybe because I used it for three years, I liked Music Match better than WMP. Maybe if I get used to it I'll change my mind, but for now I find it more difficult to use.
Jay
Austonia: When the Gateway player is hooked up to USB before you open Window Media Player, WMP will pop up a screen saying "your files may not be reconciled, would you like to reconcile now?" or something similar. Only drag is you must close and reopen WMP to get it to do this.
By the way, I disagree on your opinion of the carrying case. I thought the Oyssey had a much nicer ne compared to the one that Gateway included with my player. In order to turn the unit on or off I have to lift open the top of the case to get to the on/hold/off switch. Other than that, I think that this version answers most of your gripes about the first Odssey. Maybe they will give the SRS as a firmware upgrade.
Jay
They must of read my great review of the Gateway player and realize thay edig is going to make a ton of money. (very big tongue in big cheek!!
Loaded Music via Windows Media Player to DMP-X20:
Not being that familiar with WMP, I ended up transferring 313 songs one after another rather than album by album. This took only 9 3/4 minutes so transfer is very quick. The player organized the songs back into their respective albums with only one glitch. Some how the songs ended up in alphabetical order instead of the order they are on the cd. I think I messed that up before the transfer.
Rather than try to straighten them out, I deleted them and began over. This time I am just moving the album folders in explorer and then doing a reconcile. Seems to keep everything where it should be when I do it that way.
One thing I will say: If d.Digital had designed the original Odyessy as good as, and with all the features they put into the Gateway version, they would have had a runaway hit, IMHO!!
This player is awesome.
Just got my Gateway DMP-x20 !!!!!!
First off-- Under tools under about it states:
e.Digital MicroOS
Version1.96 HM
That should quiet any doubting Thomas' or others who shall remain nameless.
First impression is unbelievable. Much smaller than the Odyssey. About the size of a pack of smokes and easily fits into my shirt pocket.
Main menu lists choice of Playlist, Genre, Artist, Album, Track, Audible Audio, Voice Recordings, Bookmark, Settings, Tools, and About.
Supports ID3 tags, using Window Media Player to transfer files and works with Napster out of the box. Also has a wired remote control. All of the things another critic posted as lacking on the Odyssey and called big negatives, are present on the DMP-X20 version of Odyssey. Haven't had a chance to load up the music yet but will give a report later today.
I have all of edigs players and the MXP has always been my favorite because of it's small size. I think that the DMP-X20 will replace it as my favorite. The big screen size alone might do it.
Jay
Just spoke to Gateway online order person. My order will be here next Wednesday the 10th. I placed it last night and took the slower free shipping.

I ordered a unit on line today. Will settle the boot up question when I receive it.

Only 5 trades this morning in 2 hrs. 22 minutes? What's up with that?
Jay
It is my belief that it is not Samsung. I lean more to a Korean Company, LG Electronics. They used to be Goldstar and they bought Zenith TV. They manufacture many branded items for other companies, even Sony's Hi Definition receivers. They certainly have the size to fit the criteria mentioned by RP. I have never believed edig had anything to do with the Yepp players myself.

Carleton S. Fiorina should take a little time out to celebrate. The chief executive of Hewlett-Packard has pulled off the biggest merger in high-tech history, vanquishing her bitter nemesis, a son of cofounder William Hewlett. One year into the $19 billion purchase of Compaq Computer, she has cut $3.5 billion in annual costs--a billion dollars more and a year earlier than promised.
And despite erasing 17,000 jobs since the merger, HP (nyse: HPQ - news - people ) has gained market share in key categories, scored 3,000 new patents and debuted 367 new products. It just won a ten-year, $3 billion outsourcing deal with Procter & Gamble. No wonder HP is promoting itself with a $400 million brand blitz while the rest of tech reels.
But Carly Fiorina sees no time to party. Steel in her eyes, she speaks of more conflict to come, of a great tech reckoning that will unleash cataclysmic consolidation in a Slow New World. In days past, high tech grew at five times the rate of GDP, but in the future tech will grow at only twice GDP, Fiorina figures. Corporate customers will demand sure-bet returns on their investment, and vendors will have to supply ever more service and power per dollar. The technology sector will have to ax tens of thousands more jobs, some tech stocks will lose billions more in value and dozens of companies will disappear, go bankrupt or be swallowed by the few survivors.
'Some companies will get rolled up; others will slowly slip away,' Fiorina, 48, says in an interview at HP's base in Palo Alto, Calif. She adds that her rivals at Dell Computer (nasdaq: DELL - news - people ) will find that 'the growth they achieved in the past doesn't prepare them for the growth they have to have in the future.' Sun Microsystems Chief Scott McNealy 'will be one of those guys who tries to hang on,' but 'the business model doesn't work.' Companies that can't create new markets or steal business from competitors, she says, will be valued more like an old-line maker of washing machines. There won't be any more world-beaters that come out of nowhere, like Microsoft.
Fiorina insists HP can dominate this new environment of diminished expectations. The main challenge will be facing down one other giant. 'If you're talking about global, full-line suppliers,' she says, 'it's us and IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ).' She adds: 'We're chipping away at them. We can beat them.'
This is HP's pitch to corporate America: You have to consolidate and you have to cut, and we can help you do it because we have done it to ourselves. HP has slashed billions in costs by overhauling its data processing operations and its supply chain. Now it's portraying itself as The Greatest Case Study Ever Told. In merging its systems with Compaq's, HP erected a single communications network linking more than a quarter of a million PCs and handhelds; it handles 26 million e-mails a day. HP also cut the number of software applications it uses from 7,000 to 5,000, and of components it buys from 250,000 to 25,000.
We can perform similar miracles for you, Fiorina and her acolytes tell such clients as General Electric, the Department of Homeland Security (an amalgam of 22 federal agencies) and the Walt Disney Co.
'When we look at how Disney will grow, it's through a few key partnerships,' says Disney President Robert Iger. HP is 'more than a partner--we have common interests.' Combined sales to Disney (nyse: DIS - news - people ) have more than doubled since 2001; HP built technology for Walt Disney World's newest ride, Mission: Space, and wireless headsets that explain the theme park in five languages.
I hate to be pessimistic, but if e.digital were about to do well, would Furman have jumped ship? This worries me and may be changing the rose color of my glasses.

as most know, i have a number of edig products. my favorite is the mxp100 with the 1 gig micro drive because of the size and the sound.
the odyssey is next. i have had no issues with it at all. the sound and performance is equal to the mxp, maybe better, but because i usually am doing work outside when i listen to them i prefer the mxp only because of the lower weight. although, since my oldest son hijacked the mxp, i'm growing more accustomed to the odyssey. used with a pair of sony behind the head headphones the sound is great. used with bose noise cancellation headphones, the sound is tremendous.
i don't use voice activation that much. when i do use it, it seems to work very well.
i would have no problem recommending this player to anyone.
when i was in the hospital this week overnight, the first thing my wife asked me if i wanted was the odyssey. i guess she's noticed that i use it a lot.
in answer to your question:
voice activation = 2
player = 1

Selling an extended warranty is a smart move on their part. These are huge profit centers for retailers. The price is less than 10% of the purchase price which is below industry average for this type of warranty. So it's a good deal for the consumer also.

Talked to Customer Service last night
on a problem with my daughter's Treo 10. I was told that there will be a firmware update in several weeks that will address the slow boot time of the O 1000 and will add ID3 tags.
They also said that they should not be running out of O 1000s anymore. Problem with past shipments has been that over 1/3 were pre-sold as backorders. Amount of shipments is also now greater in number of units.
