How Can You Tell If Something's Spyware-free?
The previous item--- "Spyware-Free Download Manager" --- might make you wonder: How can you tell, before the fact, if a given app contains spyware? Of course, there are ways to tell *after the fact.* For example, you can install the app and then run Ad-Aware ( http://www.lavasoft.de/ ) or Opt-Out ( http://grc.com/optout.htm ) to identify and root out any spyware after it's on your system. That's good, and better late than never. But wouldn't you prefer to know if something is spyware (or not) *before* you install it?
These sites can help--- they maintain lists of all known spyware. Using them, you can search BEFORE you download an install. Cool!

KillAd (for those pesky pop-ups). The pop-up ads on the internet are on the rise and very irritating. The first time you come into contact with the ad, it will open, then you may easily add the ad to the "kill" list. The next time you encounter the ad, the program will automatically close the pop-up window with sound feedback that you may customize. You may also edit the list just in case you desire to see the ad at some time in the future. The download is small (42K). You do need to make a new folder and a shortcut to the exe program for your desktop. After doing this, I moved the shortcut to the startup folder so that it would automatically load when I started up in the AM. http://wwwkoi.wplus.net/pp/fsc/index.html

Maintenance schedule:
You should run, in the Windows environment, the programs ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter on a Regular Schedule. At least once a Month.
It is recommended that you run ScanDisk before you run the Disk Defragmenter.
Some people encounter problems with these programs, being able to run them all the way thru without them quitting is the problem. You will have a message box popup that says "unable to complete program due to another program writing to Disk".
The way around this, without changing any of your settings, is to run the above in "Windows Safe Mode". To get to the Safe Mode selection box, you do the following: Start up the Computer, Reboot, and while the Ram count is running, hold down the control key on the keyboard. This will usually popup the Safe Mode selection Box, enter the number for Safe Mode and press Enter. Then go to Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools and click the ScanDisk or Disk Defragmenter.
In certain Cases you have to press the F8 key to enter the Safe Mode.

Corine. If I was able to tell you that I'd be a genious. And I know that isn't true. LOL! But I can tell you this. I believe any timeline is rediculous. Why? Because it is a new tech. You are putting it on top of someone elses tech. Different areas I'd assume would have different problems. So you would need to tweak it until you had it right. So you can guess it will go real good with short timeline. Or real long. Without being a person who knows how this tech works and not seeing it work in the field I think any timeline given is just talk imo. As far as revenues go lets wait and see how they work it. Being a new tech they might be able to work it differently then something already out there. Who knows? We shall soon find out.

New Visual Developing Broadband for Copper
By Larry M Edwards, Web Editor
Tuesday, 19 June 2001
SAN DIEGO — A new kid on the broadband communications block is New Visual Entertainment Inc., which is claiming to be able to effectively bridge the so-called "last mile" between office networks and high-speed optical fiber networks.
Yes, we've heard it all before. And, yes, the name is confusing. Until last year the publicly held company was in the film production business, and according to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a movie is scheduled to be released sometime next year.
But New Visual, facing stiff competition in the special-venue, short-film market, did an abrupt about-face last year with the acquisition of New Wheel Technology in a $6 million stock deal. New Wheel was based in Silicon Valley, but has since relocated in Pleasanton, Calif.
The now wholly owned New Wheel subsidiary is making the transition from research to product development. Its technology, which enables high-speed data transmissions over existing copper telephone cables, has been dubbed "Cu@OCx" (pronounced "copper at OCX", and loosely translates as "optical fiber speed over copper lines").
Field trials are to begin early next year, and product sales are expected within 18 months, says Rich Wilson, New Visual's vice president of marketing and business development.
Wilson acknowledges this a tough time to be entering the telecommunications market and that people are skeptical of his company's claims, but he says several major telephone companies are aggressively encouraging product development.
Although he wouldn't identify the company, Wilson says one of the telephone companies has been eyeing the technology development for more than a year, and has agreed to sponsor the field trials.
"We probably won't be taken seriously until [the trials begin]," Wilson admits.
"We're still in a development phase, so it's not like we're knocking on doors trying to sell product right now anyway," he adds. "But by the time we're ready, we still feel like there will be such a vast improvement over the technologies available that we're going to have some success."
New Wheel has developed proprietary broadband transmission technology purported to deliver data at 52 megabits per second (mbps) over copper lines for a distance of 9,000 feet — almost two miles.
Wilson says the 52 mbps transmission rate was independently verified by Lucent Technologies in February, and is about a nine-fold improvement over current very high digital subscriber line (VDSL) service. The best the phone companies can achieve at this time is 52 mbps over 1,000 feet, he adds.
In geek-speak, Cu@OCx uses a patent-pending multi-channel modulation technique the company has named group frequency modulation (GFM). The technique addresses the problems that have typically limited effective bandwidth and distance capability of other high-speed transmission technologies, such as discrete multitone (DMT) or single-carrier modulation (SCM), the company says.
The equipment, to be supplied to telephone companies, is the rough equivalent of a high-speed modem or multiplexer, depending on whether there is a single tenant or multiple tenants. Units will be installed in Central Offices and on customer premises.
The first installations will be aimed business-class users who need a lot of bandwidth, but don't have fiber available and need a lower-cost alternative to installing fiber, Wilson says.
With its new direction, the company is also assuming a new name — New Visual Corp. — pending shareholder approval at the company's annual meeting next week.
Stock in the company, public since 1996, trades over the counter (OTCBB: NVEI) and closed at $2.26 a share, down 3 cents. The 52-week range is $1.70 to $15 a share.
In its latest SEC report, filed last week, New Visual reported no revenues for the six months ended April 30. Revenues for the six months ended April 30, 2000, were $6,800.
Total operating expenses decreased to $1.9 million for the six months ended April 30, from $8.8 million for the same period in 2000. The decrease was principally related to $1.8 million in compensatory element of stock issuances, plus a $6 million charge to earnings for the New Wheel acquisition, and the $50,000 acquisition of Impact Pictures in 2000, according to the SEC filing.
The company reported one-time charges related to $500,000 in amortization of unearned financing fees and $1 million paid to settle litigation involving the acquisition of New Wheel.
The company issued 250,000 shares of common stock valued at $1 million for the Feb. 16 settlement with San Francisco-based Astounding.com Inc. and Jack Robinson. Robinson had led New Visual to wrongly believe he was a principal in New Wheel, but still insisted on receiving a finder's fee once he was no longer a middleman in the transaction, Wilson says.

Hi John,
The LB transfer of shares to institutions when will we know who they are?
Since LB is a private company, they may choose not to disclose who they are
transferring share to. I really don't know.
Would it be a safe to say they will in turn promote NV to their retail
investors? It is safe to say that anyone who spends millions on an
investment that they could make a profit from promoting, would.
Would it also be logical this wouldn't take place until a license contract
with telecos? No.
I believe the combo of a contract with revenues and institutional investors
would provide the proper buying pressure to see this stock run. This sound
logical to you? Sure. But I believe there are other equally logical
scenarios.
Thank You!

New Visual Developing Cu@OCx Transmission ...
SAN DIEGO, Jun 19, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- New Visual Entertainment Inc. (OTCBB:NVEI) Tuesday announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, New Wheel Technology, has shifted its focus from research to product development of its proprietary transmission technology.
CuOCx (pronounced "copper at OCX") is the first technology to use the ubiquitous installed-base of copper wire throughout the world to transmit data at speeds equal to or better than VDSL or fiber optics. This technology has the potential to solve the last mile dilemma by delivering broadband services to business and residential customers that are beyond the range of current copper-based technologies.
CuOCx uses a patent-pending multi-channel modulation technique that the company has named Group Frequency Modulation (GFM). The technique addresses the problems that have typically limited effective bandwidth and distance capability of other high-speed transmission technologies, such as Discrete Multitone (DMT) or Single Carrier Modulation (SCM). GFM combines transmission characteristics of telephone cable with technology advancements from a number of fields including signal processing and information theory. The result is a more robustly transmitted signal and a unique method for recovering data from received signals that are severely attenuated.
In February of 2001, an independent global networking services organization verified CuOCx's ability to transmit and receive raw data at a rate of 52 Mbps over 9,000 feet using a single pair of 26 gauge telephone wire -- a 900% distance improvement over competing technologies in the residential marketplace, such as VDSL, and an alternative to expensive fiber optic cabling for businesses.
CuOCx will serve multiple business class markets, including small and medium sized enterprise, wide and metro area networking, and multi-tenant unit sectors that are now being served by local exchange carriers, regional Bell operating companies and Internet service providers. After initial production of CuOCx equipment for field trials and sales, this layer one technology will be incorporated into new products that allow equipment and chip makers to create new sources of revenue and service providers to reliably and cost-effectively offer voice, video and data content, using the existing telephone network.
"The desire to easily, affordably and quickly access voice, data and video has increased as applications for media rich content, such as video-on-demand, have become more widely available," explained Ray Willenberg Jr., president and CEO of New Visual. "While wireless and Ethernet in the first mile will no doubt find some level of success, we believe CuOCx holds enormous competitive advantages -- economical production of equipment and chipsets and the ability to use the existing copper infrastructure -- avoiding the time consuming and expensive delays of building a new infrastructure or deploying massive changes to the existing infrastructure."
About New Visual
New Visual is pioneering the development of a proprietary broadband transmission technology with the mission to utilize existing copper telecommunications infrastructure to deliver data and content to the office or home at fiber optic transfer rates. Through its New Wheel Technology Inc. subsidiary, New Visual is developing technology which will allow the bundling of voice, video, and data over existing copper telephone wires, potentially eliminating the need for fiber optic cable to the home or office. If you get the chance to watch the Mariners you will definetly be entertained no matter if they win or not. They have so many ways to beat a team. Watch Ichiro. His batting stance and how he hits. He can do it all. This is what happens when you get rid of the superstars with their attitudes. Griffey and A-rod always wanted things the rest of the ball players didn't get. You can't have team unity with that going on. The teams owners and management is responsible for letting that behavior go on. Now Griffey and A-rod can look back and see you reap what you sow.

NEW WHEEL TECHNOLOGY AT A GLANCE
The future of communications in business and entertainment lies in the ability to deliver bandwidth-hungry multimedia applications such as video, voice, and data services over existing copper infrastructures. As the call for these applications from consumers and B2B economies intensifies, which it clearly has, unprecedented opportunities emerge for companies offering solutions to the logjam at the heart of the “last mile”. New Wheel Technology, Inc. intends to capitalize on these opportunities by offering core technology to the companies that provide application services to suit these needs.
New Wheel Technology, Inc. is a development stage telecommunications company that is developing breakthrough digital transmission technology over copper wire, including 26 and 24 gauge telephone lines and other metallic media, and provides convergance with Local Area Network (LAN) cable. The Company is developing core technology, equipment, and IC-based solutions that address specific areas of need within the following telecommunications market segments:
Telephony/WAN (Wide Area Network)
LAN (Local Area Network)
xDSL
Additionally, the Company is evaluating the viability of offering its core technology to industrial/commercial and military market segments, which are now typically being served with fiber optic technologies. While all of these markets have differing technological needs that are industry-specific, the basic requirements remain the same:
Send digital information farther and faster;
Utilize inexpensive, if not existing, infrastructure;
Lower the cost of implementation
Also required of companies planning to offer solutions that satisfy the above are the following:
IC's or Equipment designed for fast and easy installation and deployment;
Interoperability for multiple vendors and platforms;
With the focus of the Company squarely on the above, the vision of New Wheel Technology is to bring the world’s fastest copper data communications solutions to market with speed and efficiency and establish a leadership position at the forefront of high-speed communications technology.
About Cu@OCx…
Cu@OCx is a patent pending metallic transmission technique, which provides longer-range digital transmission for any given data rate. Cu@OCx digital transmission equipment is designed to work on existing telephone and local area network cabling; either twisted copper pairs or coaxial cable.
The Company's initial product offerings will focus on two market segments each characterized by large market size and immediate needs. The first planned product offering will be for the Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) markets.
The first product planned for deployment is expected to be 52 Mbps VDSL equipment, consisting of line cards for existing DSLAMs at the telephone central office and modem cards for customer premises equipment.
In addition to ADSL and VDSL, a series of OCx products are planned for development that will allow wide deployment of SONET access service (OC rates) via existing telephone cable and building wire. These SONET rates are not currently available over wire and cable.
OC1, 51.84 Mbps, Cu@OCx range – 9,000 feet
Other SONET rates planned for development
OC3, 155.52 Mbps
OC12, 622.08 Mbps
Other SONET rates being researched
OC48, 2.488 Gbps
The first OCx product planned is equipment for extending OC1 over copper; it will be packaged in both single and multiple circuit products.
Local Area Network products with extended ranges, over 1000 feet, are also being developed to fit the Ethernet rate structure. Additionally a LAN switch is being developed to complement the high speed LAN transmission ability.
About the New Wheel Founders
New Wheel Technology, Inc. was formed by Allan Blevins and Michael Shepperd in 1999 as an R & D telecommunications company. Armed with more than 50 years combined experience in the telephony and telecommunications industry, Blevins and Shepperd developed a concept for extending the range of current broadband transmission rates over copper. Since that time, Blevins and Shepperd have secured necessary financial resources to develop the concept and successfully taken their concept through initial testing stages.
Ownership
On February 14, 2000, New Wheel Technology, Inc. was acquired by New Visual Entertainment, Inc., a publicly held company with a history in special venue film production and distribution. New Visual’s common stock is currently traded on the OTC.BB under the symbol NVEI.

Hi All. Below is a letter from another NVEI shareholder to me. Craig and Kathy need our help now! By the grace of God this isn't about you or I. Please help. Any questions feel free to email me at excelgreg@cs.com. Thank You!
Over the course of the last two weeks I have spent considerable time in discussion with Craig and Kathy Davis and in prayerful thought as to how I can best support our brother and sister in their desperate situation. First, it is important that I give you some background on Craig and Kathy. Craig worked at the John C. Stennis Space Center (NASA) for 17 years before his debilitating automobile accident when a drunk driver hit him head on at 90 mph. Craig suffered neck and back spinal column injuries and one of his legs was severely crushed. He is only now beginning to walk without assistance after three and one half years. When his sick leave and vacation time ran out, Craigs' coworkers donated their personal vacation time to keep him on the payroll as long as possible. Craig told me that he was shocked when he received his W-2 to discover that his coworkers had donated the equivalent of $15,000 to him in vacation time. Craigs' income was in an instant reduced from $4000 monthly to $1000 a month in disability pay. Kathy is employed and doing the best she can to keep the family afloat, but with two children the family has found it impossible to make ends meet.
To understand the soul of our brother, it is important that I share two heart wrenching statements that Craig made to me during our many hours of telephone calls and emails. First, Craig said that despite his current situation in life and the ongoing pain he must endure, he would gladly "take the hit again" from the drunk driver that hit him at 90 mph to protect the vehicle behind him. That vehicle contained a young mother and her child. Second, Craig said that he doesn't care if he has to "live in a box and eat roaches, as long as my salvation is in place and my family is ok".
My heart tells me that we must do much more than just pray for Craig and Kathy. So, I have been led to form the Davis Family Fund. My Pastor, Pastor John Jackson has graciously agreed to administer the fund raising effort. He will manage it through Vision Quest Ministries, a 501C3 nonprofit corporation (Federal id # 88-0453461). All donations are tax deductible. They can also accept donations of shares of stock, which allow contributors to take tax write offs on the full appreciated value of stocks without paying Federal or state income taxes. If you wish to donate appreciated stock, you will need to direct your broker to transfer your stock directly to the appropriate Vision Quest brokerage account. Contact Pastor John at the telephone number provided later in this email for the account number.
All funds collected will be forwarded to Brother Gary Sumrall, the Pastor at Salem Missionary Baptist church where Craig and Kathy attend church in Picayune, MS.
Donations may be sent to:
Vision Quest Ministries
P. O. Box 275,
Genoa, NV 89411.
Please include "Davis Family Fund" in the memo section of your check.
I am also asking that each of the prayer group members ask for a special Love Offering when they attend their respective churches this Sunday. Craig and Kathy need significant help and they need it now as their foreclosure date is July 1st.
If you have any questions regarding this request, please feel free to email Pastor John Jackson at cvccpastor@wpti.net. If you would like to speak with him personally, please call him at Carson Valley Christian Center at (775) 267-0151

Interactive TV suffers AT&T backlash and Microsoft delays
By Husna Naujeer, Total Telecom
08 June 2001
AT&T has decided to scale back plans to develop an interactive-television service with Microsoft, two years after the plans were first announced.
The U.S. incumbent says it will now roll out a more simplistic version of the software, yet to be jointly developed by Microsoft or rival software maker Liberate Technologies.
AT&T's decision is a blow to Microsoft, which invested US$5 billion in the company as part of a deal to deploy its software TV set-top boxes to as many as 10 million sets, according to The Wall Street Journal. Since then, AT&T has been testing software from a Microsoft competitor, and it concluded that consumers were not ready for many of the advanced features that it had planned to offer, the paper said.
An industry insider told the paper, "It's Internet traffic that will generate the iterative revenue that might yet save AT&T, and not the expensive Microsoft set-top boxes. In the sober light of morning they realized they couldn't afford to build out this network." In April, AT&T reported a net loss of $366 million in the first quarter, or 10 cents a share, compared with profits of $1.74 billion, or 54 cents a share a year ago.
Several executives at AT&T have said the company will pursue an alternative strategy and focus on offering video, telephony, high-speed Internet and other services using several types of appliances, including personal computers, set-top boxes and other devices.
Microsoft declined specific comment on the matter and insisted that AT&T remained a "big strategic partner," said The New York Times.
The attention on the lapsed deal has been somewhat detracted by Microsoft's announcement Thursday that TV Cabo, the Portuguese cable system, will provide the first commercial application of its interactive software. The software giant has also signed two new deals to test its latest interactive TV system in Mexico and Isreal.
Microsoft believes that interactive TV, which has been largely overshadowed by the Internet itself, can still be a viable business if companies can generate services consumers find compelling, according to Reuters. But an anonymous AT&T source told The Wall Street Journal that the latest delays in the Microsoft software have both handicapped AT&T's interactive TV project and led to a round of finger pointing among senior executives.
The executive said part of the problem was that the DCT-5000 was a computer designed by a committee that proved to be an unworkable platform. At one point it was intended to have a Sun Microsystems operating system, which was changed to a Windows CE operating system after the Microsoft investment.
An AT&T spokesperson told The New York Times that the DCT-5000 boxes would be reconfigured as less powerful DCT-2000 set top boxes, the ones currently in use for digital TV, and made available to customers.
Several industry executives have said the AT&T decision to use both Microsoft and Liberate as "preferred" software providers is a bitter setback for Microsoft that, unlike Liberate, does not have a product ready for the DCT-2000 set top box, reported The New York Times.
Analysts warn that despite hefty investments from a number of companies, the market for interactive TV is tiny, especially in the U.S. In worldwide terms, of the 1.5 billion televisions in use, fewer than 30 million use interactive services, according to Microsoft figures.
In spite of this, Ovum Consulting predicts that the number of households worldwide capable of receiving interactive TV will grow from the present 62 million to 357 million by 2006, while revenue from sales is expected to grow from about US$58 million to $44.8 billion.

Adjust the Bid Price for Companies Qualifying
Under National Market Maintenance
Standard 2: The Market Capitalization/Total
Assets and Total Revenue Listing Standard
Nasdaq has also proposed to change the minimum
bid price requirement from $5 to $3 for Nasdaq
National Market companies that qualify for
continued listing under Maintenance Standard 2, the
market capitalization/total assets and total revenue
listing standard. This change also became effective
pursuant to a pilot program that is scheduled to
expire on July 1, 2001, or at such earlier time that the
SEC grants permanent approval of the changes.
Listed companies relying on this Maintenance
Standard can therefore qualify for continued listing
under the $3 bid price requirement immediately.
Adopt a Seasoning Period for Applicants
That Rely on the Market Capitalization
Listing Standard for Initial Inclusion
Companies may qualify for listing on Nasdaq, in
part, based on their market capitalization. The
proposed rule changes will require companies that
are currently publicly traded on another market and
that apply for listing under this standard to meet the
minimum bid price and market capitalization
requirements for 90 days prior to applying to
Nasdaq. This requirement will ensure that companies
qualifying to list under the market capitalization
standard have demonstrated the ability to sustain
their market capitalization and bid price prior to
listing. This proposed change will be effective upon
the date of permanent approval by the SEC.
Exclude Extraordinary and Non-Recurring
Income Items
Nasdaq has proposed a rule change to clarify that
the calculation of income excludes extraordinary
and non-recurring items. This proposed change will
be effective upon the date of permanent approval by
the SEC.
If you have any questions relating to the pilot
program or the proposed rule changes, you may
call the Nasdaq Listing Qualifications
Department at 877.536.2737.

The Nasdaq Stock Market
®
(Nasdaq) has proposed
the following amendments to its Marketplace Rules:
1
Change from a net tangible assets listing
standard to an equity listing standard;
Adjust the $5 bid price requirement to $3 for
continued inclusion;
Adopt a seasoning period for applicants that rely
on a market capitalization listing standard for
initial inclusion; and
Clarify that the income standards exclude
extraordinary and non-recurring items.
Some of these rules are effective immediately under
a pilot program that was approved by the Securities
and Exchange Commission (SEC) on May 1, 2001.
The rules also provide for an 18-month grace period
to comply with the new equity listing standard.
Change from Net Tangible Assets to Equity
Listing Standard
Nasdaq has proposed changing the current net
tangible assets listing standard to an equity listing
standard. This change was proposed, in part, to allow
investors to more easily assess a company’s
compliance because equity is explicitly reflected in
financial statements whereas net tangible assets must
be manually calculated. The following table
summarizes the changes:
Old Net Proposed
Tangible Assets New Equity
Requirement Requirement
National Market
Entry Standard 1 $6,000,000 $15,000,000
Entry Standard 2 $18,000,000 $30,000,000
Maintenance Standard 1 $4,000,000 $10,000,000
SmallCap Market
Initial Inclusion Standard $4,000,000 $5,000,000
Continued Inclusion Standard $2,000,000 $2,500,000
This change is effective pursuant to a pilot program
that is scheduled to expire on July 1, 2001, or at such
earlier time that the SEC grants permanent approval
of the changes. Accordingly, companies may begin to
qualify for initial or continued listing under this new
standard immediately. Companies listed on Nasdaq
as of the date of permanent approval will have until
November 1, 2002 to achieve compliance with the
applicable new standard. During that period, listed
companies that do not meet the new equity listing
standard can continue to qualify under the net
tangible assets listing standard.
In addition, companies that apply for listing prior to
the permanent approval of the rule can continue to
qualify for listing under the net tangible assets standard
for a period of 90 days following that approval. Once
listed, these companies will receive the same grace
period provided to current Nasdaq companies to
comply with the new equity listing standard.

Alcatel to Demonstrate Video-over-DSL at Supercomm ...
DALLAS, May 31, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Alcatel (NYSE: ALA), the world leader in Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions, has teamed with Microsoft and Intertainer at Supercomm 2001 (June 5-7) to demonstrate to DSL service providers how they can deliver value-added broadband applications and generate additional revenue from their DSL networks by providing video-on-demand services over ordinary telephone lines.
Using the latest in video compression and digital rights management (DRM) technology from Microsoft and the rich content library available from Intertainer, the demonstration will show how high quality video can be delivered to DSL subscribers over existing DSL networks. Unlike current video solutions which require 4-6 Mbps of bandwidth per channel, the Alcatel / Microsoft implementation is capable of delivering near-DVD quality video using under 700 Kbps of downstream bandwidth, only a fraction of the bandwidth available on a common DSL connection. The bandwidth savings are due to the compression efficiency of the new Windows Media Video 8 codec, which delivers the best video quality in the smallest file size compared with other codecs.
The data center in the Microsoft booth will showcase an Alcatel Advanced Services Access Manager (ASAM), the most widely deployed DSLAM in the world, with DSL lines streaming Intertainer's video content to several TV and PC viewing locations in the Microsoft and Alcatel booths. This DSL video-on-demand system is part of the coming wave of value-added broadband applications that present additional revenue potential for DSL network operators.
Alcatel is located in Booth 717 at the Georgia World Congress Center, Microsoft is in Booth 1442.

Mark. You are correct in that context. I just have a hard time believing someone would have a problem with this setup compared to RB. And then when you are given an option for adds or not adds isn't that solving anyones opinion? But even so he did ask your opinion. You are correct!

The way this is set up being a basherless site I love it. Compared to RB it is a JOY to use. Now it would be stupid to think the people who run this wouldn't need money to continue. It is a fact of life. What is so hard about that to understand? Matt responded to my no charge comment he was thinking of having it by choice. A fee if you didn't want to see the adds. What a deal! I love options. Adds are a fact of life. And Matt is giving you the option to not see them. Ask RB to do that for you. Ya right. This is a great setup here and I can't believe how people always want more.

Total Telecom Asia
Second Chinese utility applies to enter telecoms
By Simon Marshall, Total Telecom
01 June 2001
China's State Power Corporation (SPC) has applied to the Ministry of Information Industry for a license to operate a telecoms business, according to the Zhongguo Jingying Bao news weekly, and may now join the Ministry of Railway's China Railcom as the latest utilities entrant in a growing market.
Former director of SPC's Communications Center Ding Daoqi said the power company should use the next five years to fortify its existing fiber trunk network for broadband Internet traffic and construct national local access networks.
In a further development, China Railcom reportedly completed talks with incumbent China Telecom Friday on network interconnection and tariff levels that should see it launch competing national fixed telecoms services from July.
A framework agreement is due to be signed next week that should open the way for agreements with China Telecom's offices in each individual province, although an official from China Railcom's general manager's office declined to confirm what the value of charges would be.
Although Railcom, spun off from the Railway Ministry last year, has its own fiber backbone, it still needs fixed access provided by state-owned China Telecom.
In terms of existing network and facilities, SPC's Communications Center - the unit that runs the communications network between SPC's power stations - has fiber, satellite and microwave technology at its disposal.
It also has a mandate in the government's 10th Five Year Plan for the development of the power industry to expand its network to 30 provinces, 250 cities and 2,500 counties by 2005. It already has 416,070 miles of power transmission lines that could form the basis for fiber deployment.
If SPC gains a telecoms license, it will start with the ninth biggest network in China.

KPNQwest connects Nordic ring
By Total Telecom staff
29 May 2001
Pan-European operator KPNQwest said Tuesday it has connected the Nordic ring of its planned 20,000 km network one month ahead of schedule. The company has now linked up five of the seven OC-192 self-healing rings in its European network, and plans to have the whole thing operational by the end of the year.
The 4,500 km Nordic ring connects six cities: Stockholm, Copenhagen, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Malmo and Oslo.
Jack McMaster, president and CEO of KPNQwest, described the completion of the ring as "a key construction milestone," saying it is "the largest and most complex" section of the planned "EuroRings" network.
The Hoofddorp, Netherlands-based company plans to offer wholesale and retail connectivity, and networking and hosting services across the Nordic ring, including IP VPN and IP voice networking solutions. The ring includes 38 repeater huts, re-generator stations, power supply and back-up, the company said. It is connected via a submarine cable to the German ring in Hamburg.
The EuroRings network, when complete, should link up 50 European cities, and connect to Qwest's North American infrastructure. The five complete sections are the Western ring, channel ring, German ring, Southern ring and Nordic ring. Still to be completed are the Eastern and Iberian rings.
KPNQwest is jointly owned by Qwest and Dutch incumbent KPN. Qwest's CEO, Joe Nacchio, on Monday denied rumors that his company would buy out KPN's stake in the joint venture.

Dick. So people who aren't good spellers are people who have nothing to say that will add value to your life? WOW! What a boring life it would be if we all thought that way. I could say more about that type of thinking but I'm trying to be nice today. LOL!

Elder. I certainly agree and have to believe he is doing MUCH more. I think his role will be revealed in the next two months on what he has been doing behind the scenes and what he will be doing in the future. He certainly wasn't brought here just for what is listed there.
