So what would it take to announce an IPO of wot.io or Xcellair at the ASM. ????
You can count my 3000 (the last 2000@1.67)
You would buy prior Art ( patients) to build on for further development.
A common defense is that the invention (patent) you are saying is being infringed on was developed by someone else a long time ago.
Own the prior patients and then build on them, and now they are good for another 7 years.
If you are new to the IDCC world, then you would be surprised by the ruling.
What (IMO) has been going on, is that the first ruling is always wishy washy. The ALJ basically make a no decision call and kick the can down the road.
there is a lot of delay, delay, delay. The court wants everyone to settle with out there making a ruling.(then it does not get appealed or overturned.)
The problem is pNokia and others take the delay game further.
Eventually the clock runs out, or someone runs out of $$$.
In the last ITC ruling If the ALJ ruled any different, then either party would not have an appeal for review by the entire commission.
That is why you see the comment, if the commission finds infringement then...., or if the commission finds validity then....

Hi Mickey
Everyone was asking about Vid Scale the other day.
It is a subsiderary of IDCC

We need to get Joel or someone to stakeout the parking lot of KOP tuesday to see who shows up.
Also check airlines to see if anyone of interest is flying in from lets say San Fansisco, what is it Caponica, Korea, Finnlan or elswhere with Apple,Google, intel,Qualcom,Samsung, Nokia, business class tickets.
I agree...Qualcom would want 3.5%
I M O we could have signed LG long ago if we settled for pennies.
I am sure Nokia would have settled for pennies too.
I made no sense to sue everyone when the Nokia result will set the level of fee. The court screwed up which delayed us a year or so, but "at the end of the day(hopefully not decade) we will prevail"
IMO I think it is going to be hard to find ONE buyer.
I would prefer selling 3g/4g/LTE first...
if the final price is only $3B, added in our cash we are at close to $4B, that would stabilize the SP at no less than $80. Then WM can take his time selling or monetizing the rest.
Listen this doesn't help my Dec $100 calls but it is good for my loan position/
BTW IMO LG would sign right away at 1%, WM is looking at getting 2.5%. "It is not if but when"
There was an article posted in Sept 2010 re: ROYALTY RATES FOR PATENTS ON LTE by Eric Stasik,
Very comprehensive article with lists of rates and patents for all the companies.
One thing to note is that Qualcom charges 3.5% for LTE
That could be why LG and Nokia are not signed,,,,,they dont want to pay...
Idcc has more LTE patents than Qualcom, and we cannot get 2%.
Thats like $8 a phone?
IMO Who ever gets these patents and can monitize them will make a ton of money. Even in cross license they will save someone $$$$$$.
I hope Jim or Joel or Data can re post that article. You can google it,
I think everyone is getting to ALL-or-nothing focused
Do we have to sell all to one company?
Maybe Appl/Goog are not interested in PICO CELLs or Femo cell patents.
What if ATT,Accetel or Qcom are only interested in bandwith tech.
Maybe AcmePacket wants a patent or 2
Samsung may just want M2M.
The 2 week delay may be for Evercore to shop around some of the parts that Goog or Apple do not want to pay for.
6 bil for 3g/4g/LTE
2 bil for video compression
2 bil for carrier agression
2 bil for M2M
1 bil cash
and don't forget the room with a view in KOP
Thanks for the reply and the comments;;
That is my point, the earnings/monitization we are getting are based on patents from work done as long as 4 years ago...
Think of all the patents that have been filed on things that no one has even started to use. (video compression, carrier agression, etc,) M2M . IMO. this is a real gold mine for whoever wins.
IMO how is this for an SAT question ... IDCC is to Skynet as GOOGLE is to Cyberdyne.
Only the ending is more cheerful
thanks for the reply....
hope we all get together for a party...I'll be in KOP Oct14th.
maybe they will sign by then.
Hey Joel, this is for you/Data or anyone else to comment on.....
You know how Cramer when he talks of Drug companies like Merck or Phiser he always mentions the drugs that are in the pipeline...
Well with patents doesn't work the same..
If an idea or invention is worked on for a while, say a year, then the patent is filed (for example in 2008) Then it takes almost 4 years before it is issued.
This last big patent that was issued to IDCC that is suppose to finalize the suit against Nokia was several years old. So they or anyone else infringes until it is issued. That means it takes years for each payoff.
So my question to you guys is.. What pending patents are in the pipeline that will secure the suits againt future infringers?
So again the statement of At the end of the day, it id not if we get paid off but when we get paid.
We may in fact have a much larger monitizable(is that a word) future then even we imagine..IMO
IMO,
I figure it is only good if we get to $120+, So I took a small gamble.
IMO calls are not worth the risk...normally....but this one so far out-of-the money, may have a shot.
Has anyone factored in the value of all the relationships , partnerships and deals that IDC has made over the years, Like with Accatel-lucent, the whole modem business, and the chipmakers?
I like the final number but, the 2/3/4g part of nortel only cost Apple 2.5bil,,,,,the rest was for other tech.
So 2x2.5 comes to 5bil. but yes the M2M, carrier agression and video compression patents and potential would IMO get you to the $200 SP.
Nokia still owes for past infringement, like about $500mil.
Hello, lets add that to the price before the sale.
Thats another $10 in SP
Did I not read that Apple wants $10-$15 per phone from Samsung for license?
IMHO ....Maybe that is going to be the 4g rate, with apple setting the bar(wink wink).
So maybe when Merritt told LG they want $10 a phone then balked.
But with Apple, (our buddy),leading the way, Lg, samsung, Htc, and all the others may be charged a much much higher rate.
yes by error, I might as well have gone with $9 bizzilion,
I have to stop dreaming while i am awake. I have been riding this horse for a while.
Thats the ticket,,,,,IDCC/GOOGLE or IDCC/APPLE or IDCC/HTC
OR IDCC/SAMSUNG...
Lets start the bidding, do I hear $9 mil?
mrsofty might be waiting til dollar goes up/euro goes down
that might make pnokia even cheaper
Dreamt about it last night..
$100 mil a year for 5 years plus .50 a phone for the past years,
and $100 mil a year plus .50 for the next 5 years
That is the point....IMO
The refs are reviewing the tape and people on this board just want to run the next play.
Well, we are just going to have to wait..
and if it takes longer, you still have to wait.
The game is far from over
I might be a newbie, bought in Jan 2011,
But wasn't the SP last year about $26.
Many longs got in at an even lower SP. Sounds like +50% to me.
at todays SP of $40. IMO, if we get to $60 by the end of the year that would be good.
Are we looking for a little quick $$$$ or do we want big $$$$
If Baron's comes out with an article about the cell phones causing cancer crap I am never going to look at that RAG paper again.
they killed me with an article about Salesforce being over valued,
and I wouldn't be surprised if they are an IDCC hater also...
IMO somebody is going to want IDCC patents, to boost their own or to enter the market. we all know that nobody wants to sell the entire company, there is to much up side($200) but somebody might want a piece...and we can sell off some, and still have a great future.
Hey Data;
What if IDCC spits into two entities,
one being the patents for 3g/4g/lte that it sells off to google,
and the other with the patents for M2M, and bandwith and compressions that it hold on to.
You can't think of it as debt, like a bill.
It is using other peoples money to buy assets that will make you more money. And if you don't spend it you can always give it back.
In the mean time you have their money and their interest.
And some flash money to make deals.
As long as we don't get ripped off, like in a bad drug deal, all is good. (Sounds like a cop movie)
Hasn't it been posted recently that pNokia was setting aside $500 mil for legal resilution?
And also, what do you think NOK owes for past unpaid fees?
This is really crazy...
Are we really gonna sell one way or the other....
IMO>>>>>>I don't think so....long timers are just gonna be longer and newbies are gonna be long too
It just numbers and they will eventually go up , if not this week, then next week or next month... IMO
Hopefully today we will know before 11:30 if today is THE DAY
Thanks again for getting the posts to us as soon as they are available
It's incredible how SQNS gets a pop for 4G and IDCC is just sitting.
With more coverage coming on board this has got to take off.
The Webcast for the Barclays meeting is this afternoon. The link is on IDCC website. I won't get to listen til tonight but I am hoping someone will post about.
Thanks again for eveyones post, I keeps me up to date, and I appreciate it.
Looks like we are getting some good trading...
This waiting til 11:00 is killing me, I'm not getting any work done.
Hopefully good news is a comin and I won't need to, then I will just worry about my tee time..
Looks like we are going to have a lot of volume today,
Hope somebody knows somethin'
IMO This is your last chance to get in at $44.
The shorts better cover.
Don't be surprised if we finish in positive territory by the end of the day.
An open letter to Jefferies...... We will knock down our share price before the meeting on Thursday so your investors can get in at a lower price and make you look good if you recomend the purchase of IDCC shares
So this is how they get all the shorts to cover and get off our back.
If the outstanding short positions gets down to a more reasonable level maybe we can move on.
At least it is not a funeral durge
I'LL take $6 EPS
plus
Merrit postulated that in the future we could see $800 mil per year on the LTE , femocells etc
So IMO I am justifing my holding on if the water gets choppy over the next few month.
Hey John .... IMO is it funny math or does Barclay's:
"Rising Adoption and Expanding Markets Provide Incremental Growth: Mass market 3G adoption, the shift to 4G, and broader integration of wireless technologies in nontraditional devices (e.g. tablets, etc.) all serve as drivers expanding IDCC’s addressable market. We estimate that the company has close to $3 billion in aggregate incremental revenue opportunities in 3G and 4G handsets alone over the next five years."
$3 billion dividied by 5 years = $600 mil a year/ $14+ EPS
14 X 13.5 PE = potential SP in the $ 189.
Or is that to simple? IMO
