sorry for repeat posting....I didn't think the first one took.
Jimlur,
It seems a buy rating from TC versus and outperform is a bit of a turn-around, as TC had over the last six months or so taken a show-me-the-money stance on this investment. He is now sounding more optimistic than Boenning and Scattergood-rating wise and price target.
I was wondering if you sensed this level of optimism based on your conversation with him?
Jimlur, TC had gotten quite conservative in his expecations (in hindsight a visionary), but now to be raised to a buy instead of an outperform seems like he's quite pleased with the settlement and future prospects - would you say he is passing by Boenning & Scattergood in his optimism?
Just curious on your take based on your conversation?
JD GATOR,
I agree with you entirely on this. We are clearly ramping up in the S-curve on this investment so EPS will show the way on the climb up, not the Samsumg 8K (old news). We are 50 percent licensed now on 3G at the front-end of the 3G run - already executing phenominally as compared to the battle to get back-payments owed with 2G. All the little fish will now step in line without a fight they already know they can't win. This small streams add up, and we didn't even get them for 2G.
When considering whether to sell on a pop and take my money, I think IDCC is a safer bet than cash for holding or increasing value in this economy, as their earnings are for the most part buffered from the ill effects of the economy.
I personally do not think that Motorola is in a fighting position any more and even they will sign without litigation, along with ERICY. Too much new good news waiting in the wings for this company, and an easy double, or even the Houston 100 could still be a possibility on the stock in 2009 or 2010.
It also would not bother me at all for IDCC to put Mot and ERICY in line at the ITC, just to get them on a certain timetable for payment. When NOK falls they will bow out for sure.
Mickey,
I hope your right, and that they do not have to start all over at the negotiating table. Sounds to me like they got most items covered and perhaps are still haggling over rate. And welcome back Mickey, it's nice to see you posting again and back as a strong believer in the companies potential. I hope we are all rewarded soon.
I think WM has already said tht after passage of a period of time and subsequent events (e.g. Samsung) that things have to sort of be revisited. In other words - they're probably back to squares at the negotiating table. IMO in a stronger position than they were when they issued the 8K.
Looks like we're now on the brink of the "Soon thereafter" phase of the Binding Term Sheet.
All I can say is the price is holding up quite nicely and the daily volume has increased since the SAMMY term sheet was signed.
To me the 8k was IDCCs fulfillment of their obligations agreed to as part of the term sheet, as it related to outstanding litigation.
For IDCC to disclose the post-trial position of the ALJ in the 10Q, makes me feel we all should set a realistic expectation that IDCC and SAMMY came to a compromise settlement. Whatever that is I think I will be happy with.
Sounds like IDCC is now only awaiting a selection of two payment options from SAMMY and a check, with their side fulfilled.
I also bought today. With the volume showing up today, there was plenty of buying on this weakness, whatever was behind it some folks got a good deal and I am glad to be one of them.
I see in Revlis that Mschere has rubbed off a little on everyone. Nice to see someone still connecting the dots, ha! I wish Mschere would have numbered them like you do, but keep it up, Revlis.
It's a different basket of companies that will lead this market out of bad times, and the trick is picking the one's that will be leading the way.
I like WMs recent comment that we are sort of "insulated" from this market with some of our agreements being fixed in nature, such as LG and Apple (even if there are other components to them yet to be understood).
The point is that IDCC could be one of those companies that lead the pack out of this terrible market.
Jimlur is a Genius
Obviously, I'm not
JIMLUR IS A GENIOUS!
Learning2vest, I wanted to say thank you along with everyone yesterday for your contributions to the board.
IDCC is going to be a must have for any fund or basket of stocks investing in the growth of 3G wireless.
The cup is half full (50% of 3G market under license), and Nokia is on a date certain for resolution going in against a judge they pissed all over.
If that's not a harbinger of better times ahead I don't know what else anyone could ask for in making an investment decision.
Revlis, I am also optimistic about a near term Nokia agreement because of their use of "term sheet". I'm no legal eagle, but in my mind I visualize it as an agreement that contains fulfilment of any requirements Nokia may have had, or puts to rest anything that may have been holding up a final settlement between Nokia and IDCC.
Who knows...the Samsung agreement alone may have also fulfilled or triggered whatever framework was in place with ERICY regarding 3G licensing.
It's nice to have some new possibilities to speculate about.
Yep, the Mark Twain investment philosophy...put all your eggs in one basket and watch the basket closely...

What's really nice for those who have followed along while Nokia jerked the ITC around by forum shopping when it seemed convenient, and now they find themselves full circle coming back before that same court, and now all by themselves - NO WAY.
This time around they will probably have the arrogance to cry that they have been prejudiced, when it's already been stated that NOKIA has prejudiced IDCC in their actions.
It sure put's IDCC in a position of strength at this point in time. Much stronger than they were yesterday.
And to think that when IDCC issued the 8k announcing substantial progress NOKIA could have put this all behind them.
All I know is that I would not want to be in Nokia's seat right now, because with any posturing they might attempt, SAMSUNG just let the air out of their balloons and they stand alone to answer to the judge they disrespected - so IDCC is in a position to say pay me now, or pay me more later.
Nicmar, glad to see you still long, from your neighbor over in Silex, MO. My retirement accounts still have plenty of IDCC, I just hope the stock keeps goin north for a long time to come.
Does it give info. on how long of an extension they are requesting?
I bet WM is deer hunting in PA this weekend. If he's not - he should be...
The stock price holding up reflects that this company is not all about Nokia.
Jimlur, sorry for your loss.
Sincerely, Wayne. Glad things are ok at IHUB.
Jimlur, Rmarchma is a numbers kind of guy that has put forward estimates that in my opinion are superior to anyone else on this thread, and the analysts that seem to always set us up to miss our numbers. I value his contribution and feel he is objective enough to continue to post those valued numbers professionally even though he no longer distributes his Reasons for Investing in IDCC, and may no longer hold shares. Who can blame anyone for getting disgusted and getting to the sidelines on this stock? When Ronnie sees a compelling reason to invest I am sure he will buy back in, and it's probably why he still watches the numbers so closely. For all I know he is Warren Buffett, and I think very highly of him either way.
The Apple numbers and guidance are shrouded in mystery either by choice or non-disclosure agreement, so any conservative accountant would let only the numbers show the way, until numbers come along that might lend thought to a new theory about those financial terms. To date, only a fixed agreement has been disclosed about Apple and we are all hoping there's more behind the "additional" part of the discloser.
I guess had IDCC pushed for the broader definition and won on up to around 15 other patents then we could have come out better in that case, but I guess in the UK that's a pretty risky move, and that broader definition has therefor not been been challenged or rule on by the UK courts.
You're the best, Jimlur
If there is anything positiive about their non-disclosure on the product side of the house it is the fact that, from here forward it could begin to pay off in the form of earnings surprises and increased guidance, which is all the street really cares about...
I would hate to miss RMarchma's prediction...
Slacker711, After the "this is the type of case that does not go to trial" comment who could disagree with you on the boilerplate language - it's a show of confidence, but at this point the final decision is really nothing be a crapshoot, but is at least in good hands resting with Judge Luckern.
gio, is there a post number, or link you could share that provides the actual decision. There is so much activity I can't find it among today's post.
I think even with the evidence denied, IDCC clearly communicated to Judge Luckern the message "Look Judge, what Levi's buying off on here, and let's not forget Samsung's own behavior when our shoe was on their foot, and what they argued"
Message sent - loud and clear!
Say, Does Levi have some offshore account that Sammy's filling, or what? He's got it out for IDCC and clearly tossed public interest quite awhile ago...
AMCSATX, just making sure this was a joke...with the firm
Do we cheat'em and How? Good one! LOL
Also Loop note that the QCOM settlement came when their chips were down, as they just lost in a German Court. So while our chips are down, don't think we are out of the game. IDCC could be holding a royal flush. Nokia had things to lose in the UK, and there has obviously been material ongoing negotiations since the 8K.
speaking of repetitive posts...I'm the pot that called the kettle black...
Well, Romulus is still posting too, and similarly posted directly to Jimlur that if there was no settlement prior to the trial that he would move on. But I still keep reading these repetitive posts from himm that are a rant against MGMT, with a lot of caps/yelling to further his Agenda. I feel he has only Samsung's best interests in mind, but it's strictly my opinion.

That's one thing you have to love about Nokia's double-speak out of both sides of their mouths, talking as a licensor about how much patents are worth, and as a licensee that everyone else is charging too much. By playing both sides with dirty hands their own actions and testimonies will hang them out to dry.
Cheers Jim....clink of the bottle
