We’re about to replace an intelligent, thoughtful, good-humored, decent man with a mentally ill idiot.
With all our faults and misdeeds, we are still a nation who managed to elect leaders like Jefferson, Adams, Lincoln, FDR, JFK. And now, this…this…vile creature.
After Vietnam and Nixon I thought I’d lived through the worst. I lie in bed at night, I wake in the morning, continually during the day I think, “This cannot be happening.”
This is a national tragedy, on par with the Civil War, Pearl Harbor, 911.
And half our citizens celebrate.
Donald Trump: Make sexual assault great again.
Those Republicans who sold their souls and their integrity by supporting this disgusting person are beginning to run for cover.
New Hampshire GOP Senator Kelly Ayotte just withdrew her support, said she cannot vote for this kind of person, will write in Pence.
Pence himself canceled his appearance in Wisconsin. Unconfirmed rumor (I want to stress this, unconfirmed) that he actually told Trump that he would not appear in his stead and defend him. Why the heck doesn't he withdraw his acceptance as the VP candidate?????
John McCain withdrew his support, said that the RNC is stuck with Trump and so is Mike Pence!
I agree, he's just another piece of Republican damaged goods.
My point is that he would be more electable than the train wreck they've got now. I think that he'd still lose, but it would be closer.
Addition to post: I just saw that our Governor here in Ohio, Republican John Kasich, has called Trump disgusting and said that he will never support nor vote for him. Also, the former New Jersey GOP Governor Whitman says she's voting for Clinton.
Folks like Chris Christie and Ted Cruz have sold their souls.
Just out: Tweet from Republican Senator John Thune, Chairman of the Senate GOP:
Senator John Thune @SenJohnThune 3h3 hours ago
Donald Trump should withdraw and Mike Pence should be our nominee effective immediately.
I'm a lifelong progressive liberal Democrat. I don't want a Republican president. And when your enemy is in the midst of committing political suicide, let him be.
But...
The Republicans have a way. Trump will not win, he cannot win. Faux News loudmouths and crackpot message board posters aside, the genuine, experienced, rich and powerful brain trust of their party knows this. They have been appalled, embarrassed and ashamed from the beginning of this fiasco, even more so today.
They know that Trump doesn't give a crap about this country, he only cares about himself and his "brand". He's gotten a billion dollars worth of free publicity for both. Unfortunately, even when he loses he'll continue to get more for many years to come.
The Republican power-elite should convince him (using very small words and perhaps cartoons) to have a press conference. He would announce that he's dropping out. First, he could say it's for health reasons, though his sick narcissistic vanity would have difficulties with this. Second, it's for the sake of of his family, they're getting stressed-out or some such nonsense. Third,(and this is their best shot), he says he realizes that Hillary's horrible lies and treacherous vote-rigging have made it impossible for him to win in a fair election. For the sake of America (the idiot would love saying that!) he's dropping out.
And in his place...Mike Pence.
Pence just maybe, maybe, might have a chance. Certainly better than this stupid, ignorant, racist and sexist, half-insane monster.
If you had to sum it up, this tape, these words, are who this guy really is. As Gandhi said:
“Your beliefs become your thoughts,
Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,
Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.”
She had mild pneumonia and soldiered on with her grueling campaign schedule. Good for her.
She'll recover. But tomorrow your guy will still be a fascist.
Hillary Clinton on life support in a permanent vegetative state would make a better President than that ignorant, idiotic, insane clown.
This is the best essay I've read about Trump's latest ignorant outburst. By the excellent writer Evan Osnos, it's a must-read.

His main point is that gun owners themselves should be insulted:

OT: Peter- I'm a vegetarian, stopped taking any supplements about 5 years ago, perhaps more out of laziness than anything else.
Is there one specific multivitamin (containing sufficient B12) that you'd recommend? TIA.

Regarding diabetes in China, the International Diabetes Federation refers to it as the world's largest diabetes epidemic! Almost 12% of Chinese adults have it. Perhaps even worse, one study showed that fully half of people tested had pre-diabetes blood glucose levels.
stoneroad: I didn't mean a rationale for a reverse split, I meant one—however minor—positive result.
honestabe: I never indulge in schadenfreude, it's despicable. As I've said before, I simply have a lifelong interest in investor psychology.
Interesting post. Speaking of the entire market, not just biotech, David Kostin of Goldman Sachs says we're going to see meager gains this year. I especially like his line, "Flat is the new up."
OT- World population, live "odometer-type" view. Amazing!

In certain specific circumstances they can work for an individual stock: rumor-driven moves, panic-driven, etc.
For Chinese officials to assume that abruptly shutting down their entire market will in itself fix the underlying problem (breaking the circuit then resuming the current flow without repairing the fault) is ridiculous.
Think about from where the markets borrowed the term, electrical systems of course. If there's a short or some other fault, the breaker detects this, throws and interrupts current flow before the house burns down.
Simply resetting the breaker to on and resuming the current flow will result in the breaker throwing again, and again, ad infinitum. The cause must be determined and repaired.
What that is, and how it can be fixed, who knows?

Data were same as on the ASH15 poster, but to a layperson like me, it seems impressive. The before and after photos of the BPDCN skin lesions and bone marrow biopsies are remarkable.
Today's 44-page report from Amnesty International says that a substantial part of the Isis arsenal is U.S-made weapons brought into Iraq between 2003 and 2007.
Remind me again, who was President then?

Exactly, that's what I meant. It's insane.
Some folks feel they have the right to own a machine gun. And the rest of us and our children have the right to be murdered by them.
STML- Appreciate your reply and other PM replies. Going to hold, see what happens.
STML: B.- I have a large position in this (probably too large), still down a bit, was hoping for more of an ASH pop.
Saw a Tweet suggesting that while the BPDCN results are good, the Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) data are not so great.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm about as far from a trained scientist as one can get. I have a lifelong interest in social psychology, have managed to learn just a bit about it, and I'm especially interested in investor psychology. That said, being human, I myself continue to make many mistakes.
If you're interested, Nofsinger's The Psychology of Investing is probably the classic of the field, and as far as insights into message boards (even though it was written in the 1950's!), Eric Hoffer's The True Believer is my personal favorite.
ps: I enjoy your thoughtful, well-reasoned and well-written posts, here and elsewhere.

Here’s the funniest post I’ve read in a while explaining why PPHM should be $1,000 per share and containing perhaps the most confusing and generally goofy extended analogy you’ll ever see, all about the Big Bad Wolf and the Three Little Pigs and Big Pharma and falcons and…well, you’ve just got to read it yourself.
