Just goes to show that we're headed down the right path with algae production. It's the right path, because currently, it's the most profitable one. No tax credits needed - it's based on pure business fundamentals, which makes us different than a lot of the competition.
When the time comes that real money can be made producing biodiesel, there's going to be a mad scramble of companies building production facilities to meet demand.
Our PBRs will already be on the ground.
The more I think about the PR this morning, the more I'm loving the idea of it. Dennis has taken one of his stated obstacles and almost completely done away with it.
He said on the last conference call that he didn't realize how difficult it would be to get permits from some municipalities to build a PBR within their city limits, and it was clearly a point of frustration for him. This 150-acre subdivision allows BEHL to:
- pull ONE permit
- put it the city of least resistance (my guess is SJC), avoiding a major timing obstacle each time they install a unit
- share almost every resource the PBR needs to function (electricity, water, CO2 source, labor, etc)
- Deliver each 15 acre solution for less than advertised, yet make the same profit
- be close enough to personally baby the PBRs to success (as stated in the PR)
- prove to a major buyer that the BEHL solution works on a 150-acre scale
And for all this, BEHL will take in revenues of $86,000 an acre. No question this is a forward looking PR, but the mere idea of it makes it a much easier transaction for everyone involved, and increases speed-to-market of the algae that will come out of those tubes.
Somebody deserves a raise.
And based on Dennis' preso to the Huntington Beach Council, I've got EPS of 3 and 1/3 cents for 2011. .0067 cents for 2010.
The 2010 number was when they were committed to building 20 acres for 2010 though. Not sure of the timeline for the 150-acre build, but I'm guessing it scraps my old estimates for both years.
You're right on.
I have my own spreadsheet that I use for this, from numbers that have been put out by Dennis in the past. I honestly don't want to share them, because the numbers are for one, incomplete. Secondly, they're staggering. No sense in sharing something that is not official and backed up by BEHL. However, based on what we've heard, production of a high value strain of algae would make for a VERY profitable farm - of any size.
I don't see the value of putting out any kind of number until we hear the full story from Dennis himself, but from what I've cobbled together, things are looking good.
In addition, I think the 150 acre solution idea is brand new as of this month. And it's incredibly smart - much easier to get buy-in from customers who are:
a. paying less for the solution.
b. doing less to maintain it.
Honestly, this just keeps getting better and better.
The customer-ready PBR (version 3) is being worked on and will be completed this month.
Since you've left the board they've announced $6,000,000.00 in purchase orders they will be fulfilling through the end of the year. That is separate of the 150-acre "subdivision" they announced this morning.
We're at the point (when the PBR is completed this month) where we can begin signing contracts. And with all the interest there seems to be, it could end up being a very good year for us.
welcome back
Just crossed. .0149 HIT!
Yes. Going from development stage company to production mode this month, and just announced some of their plans in a PR this morning.
Check out the ibox. MUCH to be excited about this year.
It's just a perception thing. You've been following BEHL for a year, me a few months less. We know the potential, we know the company, we've spoken to Dennis and the crew. Our comfort level is intact.
But to new investors, customers, partners, hearing about BEHL for the first time, the website is many times their first impression. It's smart business to have it looking good. It's a marketing tool that helps sell product and raise investor confidence.
I'm glad they're taking care of it. And completing it in conjunction with the PBR is smart business.
Many good things on the horizon here...
BigBake - PM your email address, and I'll send you Monique's email. I've been in contact with her about the website and some other items.
I'd agree with .025
A fully-operational V3 PBR is chicken soup for the BEHL investor's soul these days.
One thing I really enjoyed reading in the Quarterly Report was the answer to the question of whether or not BEHL was a development stage company or if it was currently conducting operations.
ANSWER: Currently Conducting Operations.
Been waiting a long time to see that. IMO, 2010 will be a very good year.
kind of makes you feel good with $6,000,000.00 in orders already in hand, doesn't it?
You're right, he's produced $6,000,000.00 in orders already with no V3 PBR.
So... the more PBRs he builds, the less help he needs. Which means more profit for BEHL.
Or... the more algae he sells the more help he needs. Which means more profit for BEHL and RWE.
Either way we're making more money. And our Dennis is the one making it happen.
I am, yes. I think we saw the bottom in December.
Our product is coming to market very soon, in an industry that is just beginning to heat up.
Regarding Alta3...
It would seem that BEHL and RWE are setting up the first licensee for their combined product, to be able to demonstrate revenue potential in a live environment. Doing so would be an invaluable tool when selling licenses to other businesses.
Dennis has said that he wouldn't begin selling the PBRs until he had version 3 set up, so he could prove its worth in a full scale environment. If that's his MO, then it stands to reason that he's doing the same with licensing agreements. Now that it is signed, and revenues are coming in, he can use those numbers to sell to future licensees.
He'll be able to demonstrate with real examples that the customer-ready PBRs can produce, and the licensees can profit.
The business is taking a very logical path to profit - my opinion is that the share price will follow.
Shen's main objective was to secure manufacturing contracts in China. In addition, he built the PBR monitoring software that they initially used for the SJC PBR.
Contract negotiations are long over. The manufacturing agreement is already in place, and parts have been received.
Also, in RWE, BEHL found a counterpart that already had a sophisticated monitoring software setup for its own PBRs. Dennis had said months and months ago that BEHL would seek to leverage RWE's software for monitoring because it was more advanced than their own.
Maybe there were hard feelings, maybe not. But it's a business move, and it seems like a logical one.
Dennis has produced.
- He's produced $6,000,000.00 in orders.
- He's produced a working prototype of a PBR that convinced customers to place those orders with Biocentric.
- He's currently producing version 3 which can be sold to future customers.
I know you and Lon like to bad mouth Dennis for just being a "salesman" ... but I'll take the guy who can produce $6,000,000.00 in orders before the 1st acre is built ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.
With version 3 being built, $6M already in house, and only an $8M market cap, I'm feeling very good about my investment.
Amen Ray. A lot to be excited about in the coming weeks/months.
Congrats Bud. Big day for you indeed. Have a PBR
100% agree.
yeah, very solid day.
Thanks for the DD Steve, great work!
It matters to us! glad to have you on board.
think those 40k you got will be a nice chunk of change by the end of this year.
good luck to both of us!
my count hasn't changed Ray, thanks for keeping track.
right on. slow and steady...
They pulled several provisional patents on certain parts of it, so the intellectual property has been registered. I think they have a 12 month window to get the full blown patents after that.
Not sure when the first of the patents was registered.
This same PR came up on my google alert today too. Weird.
how about this then? ... $8.5 million market cap at close today, with already $6 million in contracts BEFORE the full-scale PBR is up and running. Got to like the looks of that.
What I'm looking forward to is the investors/partners/licensees/prospects that BEHL has had at their HQ over the past several months getting to see the full-scale version in action. Many of them wait to sign contracts until the PBR is proven in full-scale.
That's a lot of money out there that makes our $8.5 million market cap look like squat. That's the kind of money that takes penny flippers out of the game for good, and I can't wait to give them my shares. Currently on sale for $2.00
Right. In my opinion, this point has flown totally under the radar. Taxable income is what you get after expenses, deductions, exemptions. Effectively, Dennis is talking about 5 million in profit for 2010. 25 million in PROFIT for 2011.
Given that he's seemed to keep his expenses low, and they are establishing a low-overhead model, I don't see the revenues being that much greater. Time will tell though, and I'm excited to find out.
Lucky - Dennis addressed this in his November conference call. He said that he investigated what it would take to go after the folks who brought the stock down, and decided to not pursue it any further. Too much time and money towards something that may not pay off enough in the end. Plus the opportunity cost of splintering his focus in another direction not dedicated to building his business would be too much.
I'm very excited about 2010. I think it will be one hell of a year for BEHL.
Ah.... this is better. I was starting to feel a bit like Vince Vaughn on the gymnastics rings in "Old School" with the lit cigarette in his mouth...
"STILL HOLDING! .... STILL HOLDING!!"
Very well stated.
Hey Ray - been here the whole time. Not worth going around and around on the same arguments with the basher-folk, so I've stayed off the board. Still read it daily though. On it's own merits, I think this company is a great investment, and to answer the question on your PM, I'm still holding every one of them.
Nice work at the close guys.
.0165 looks great today
Amen.
And at the current market cap, it will not take many new investors to move the PPS.
The Algal Biomass Organization’s (ABO) Executive Director Mary Rosenthal testified before Congress today.

still here. going to be adding more in the next couple weeks as well.
VERY well stated.
Interesting Article....
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Old Dominion University, Virginia Beach and several partners are looking to an algae farm to develop biofuels.
The proposal would develop a $50 million algae farm on city-owned land. The aquatic growth would be converted into biodiesel fuel and other forms of alternative energy.
But the proposal hinges on federal stimulus money from the U.S. Department of Energy. The group is asking for $46 million from a $100 million pool set aside by the Obama administration for advancing algae-to-biodiesel technology. A decision about the funding is expected by the end of the year.
The money would finance three years' worth of development and construction of the algae-growing farm, harvesting areas and conversion equipment.
