I believe that Musclepharm is hanging in there because of MP Combat Crunch sales, and sales of items that fall out of top 50 giving wrong picture of overall protein powder sales.
I don't think that Musclepharm is expanding much at bodybuilding.com, as new lines seem to substitute sales of existing ones.
Musclepharm could expand sales if it focused on the Combat and Assault products, extended them with new powders more targeted specific needs. The MP Combat 100% Isolate definitely should be on the top 50 at bodybuilding.com....MP Hardcore should be discontinued....and Arnold Series sold off.
When you sell close to $200,000 each day on bodybuilding.com, what does $100,000 matter?
Schiff Nutrition spends 25% of revenues on marketing....Musclepharm spends less than that, so there is nothing to worry about.
Musclepharm should however acknowledge that product management of existing products and not just product and packaging development of new products is part of marketing.

Probably the margins are a whole lot better for the protein bars than any other categories of products.

IMO, sell off that Arnold Series line to GNC, along with that endorsement.....I think that would be beneficial for all parties....Musclepharm needs the money, GNC needs a pep, the brand is getting a little too boring, and technical.
Musclepharm would probably get $40 million for the line, which is a lot more than what it put into it. GNC has invested into the line, so it makes sense for it to bring it to the next level. Arnold Schwarzenegger is a legend, and if Arnold would extend the contract for indefinite time with GNC....this line could provide the GNC brand with many positive atrributes.
MP COMBAT CRUNCH IS HUGE!
sports nutrition retailers (physical and internet), restaurants, cafes, large format convenience stores (Fast Eddy, Racetrack, etc) and mass retailers without slotting fees should really be the channels chosen for launching MP Energy Sport.
Also, until MP Combat Crunch is ready for launch at all convenience stores, I see no need really for working actively on launching MP Energy Sport that hasn't been tested successfully in the market yet.
MP Combat Crunch has passed the test, and hands down, it's a huge success.
For now I would focus on the following channels for MP Energy Sport:
Smoothie King, Panera bread, Starbucks, Smash Burger, GNC, Walmart, etc etc....it wouldn't cost that much getting in there, and the exposure would be better than small convenience stores.
Small convenience stores would work when the drink already penetrated the above mentioned channels.
Large convenience stores got more space, and thus less fees associated with getting in to them...and more room for new brands, so they would be ideal channels to launch the brand in.
Launch where there is a huge nationwide audience, and where the cost of launch is low.

Frost will figure something out that will make everybody money.
Most likely it is gonna be one Frost company that will buy Musclepharm....and then it will be merged with Capstone Nutrition.
Everybody is gonna be happy....because Musclepharm got the sales, other Frost Company got the market cap, and Capstone Nutrition got the profitability.

Chromadex will buy Musclepharm....then Chromadex will integrate with Capstone Nutrition, over a cup of coffee at Starbucks in Miami....Frost's clan and H.I.G put the details together.

MP Combat Crunch is doing just fine, and BB.com is not lying about Musclepharm's sales of MP Combat Crunch.....Bodybuilders want protein bars, and based on calorie metrics, MP Combat Crunch and Quest Nutrition bars are the best available.
The Quest bars are just a little girly, sissy looking to bodybuilders....so, they pick MP Combat Crunch protein bars. Hands down, a winner!
Cocoprotein is a loser product, I do agree on that. Look at it like this: 80% of all newly launched products fail....so, one miss here and there....that's normal.
MP Combat Crunch protein bars are a success, and there is not so much to point fingers at regarding that product category at large....The Arnold Iron Muscle Bar are winners too.

Now, almost 4 months have passed since end of Q4....and Musclepharm raised $4 million 2 months ago, that it had to pay extraordinary expenses with.....and the bank still did not put a lien on the inventory or sell any stocks in escrow....ain't that peculiar if the company went from bad to worse?
The company is doing fine, it is launching new products, that down the road all will contribute something to the bottomline. Everybody believes there is a next level for Musclepharm growth.

Jeffy, Musclepharm is in good shape again....the numbers cannot be that bad, because otherwise, Musclepharm would not be in business.
I think, Bodybuilding.com has had a tremendous sales this Spring, I see many brands back ordering products...Musclepharm out of popular Cookies and Cream flavor....after having launched Hardcore products, which I'm sure are at the very top of the 51 to 36,000 list on Bodybuilding.com.
Products that are ranked at 500 at Bodybuilding.com, probably still got considerable sales. Bodybuilding.com is huge, and buyers from the site got different preferences. Optimum Nutrition that sells for $1 billion per year and 5 times more than closest competitors, naturally sells the most through the site, with many products out of the top 50 as well.
That loan was 2 months ago....and Musclepharm spent $850,000 on Musclepharm Apparel out of that $4 million, and presumably $2.5 million on building out at Capstone Nutrition.
MP Combat Crunch is close to top 10 place on BB.com......The protein bar category has truly become a new money maker for the company.
according to retail sites, by April 25, Musclepharm will have all flavors available of Combat Protein....so, that was surely a short cut off.
Furthermore, sales of MP Combat Crunch is going through the roof at most retailers, and via that sales....musclepharm can give coupons for MP Combat Protein, MP Assault, the new Hardcore line or Black Label line.....
Fact is that Musclepharm ain't cut off anything, keeps it's inventory at par religiously, doesn't disappoint Costco, GNC and Vitamin Shoppe...and got the necessary ties to Bodybuilding.com to allow it doing all this
What proof does anybody have that Musclepharm's products are inferior to competitors? a labeling lawsuit is not a proof of anything....GNC got labeling lawsuits against it....so does Kind nutrition bars, and many other supplement companies.
There are law offices, most of them in California and New York, that don't do anything else than suing supplement companies, all year long, one after the other.

I think that sales and marketing is in good hands now, with the addition of some former GNC executive and with no more celebrities brought under the wings of Musclepharm.....Some at Musclepharm may find it hard not having to recruit celebrities anylonger at pool parties in Vegas...but Musclepharm cannot afford it.
Musclepharm goes from having people in shorts running the show, to having people in suits running the show.
I got the feeling that the recent review of company by former employee on glassdoor.com covered the situation at Musclepharm quite well. Some there don't show enough concern for the company and lower ranking employees. Not sure it's Brad they are referring to...
Musclepharm Assault is still on the UK top 50 list, because certain products not sold in the UK are excluded from the Worldwide list.
The list ranks skus after how many of them are sold, not according to gross sales of any particular sku.
So, Musclepharm got a problem because a new blender bottle is sold in high numbers....and brands with five products beat Musclepharm with 50 different products and many different products within each product category.
Bodybuilding.com carries 36,000 different SKUs....and for Arnold Iron it's still the best outlet for the line, even if not a single Arnold Iron product makes it's it to the Top 50.
Should Musclepharm worry about this? Sure it should. If I were Musclepharm I would sell an Arnold Iron water bottle for 25 cents, a Fitmiss water bottle for 30 cents and an MP water bottle for 35 cents.....just joking, but of course Musclepharm should look for things it can do to defend it's sales of individual products while expanding with new products. I believe in inventing new brands, and not extend too much under the same brand umbrella.

Brad, Ryan Deluca, Damien Mase (M&S), the CEO of Cellucor, the CEO of BPI Sports and Jim Stoppani get the job done IMO.
Could they do a better job, sure they could....but compared to the rest of the industry, they are doing better.

Investors can have comments and questions to operations and strategies of a company, but they should not run companies or be involved in supervision of executives....that rarely is a good idea, unless they got the caliber of Phillip Frost. Phillip Frost is a busy man though, but he can refer somebody qualified to assist Musclepharm if needed.
if only good news going forwards, we could see some rally of the stock price pushing through past double digit price levels.
if somewhat encouraging news going forwards, we should at least expect to reach price levels of early 2014, and we should expect some stabilization of stock price as Musclepharm's ability to finance itself at reasonable terms returns to normal.

what are you talking about? the SEC investigation is about to get concluded, and Musclepharm has most likely been advised to separate the board members from executives, as part of the deal.
Musclepharm seems to be doing pretty well internationally, at Costco, at Vitamin Shoppe, at Muscle and Strength and at GNC.
None of the major brands, apart from Optimum Nutrition and Cellucor seem to be holding up sales at Bodybuilding.com, that increasingly cater to upcoming brands.
Bodybuilding.com is tearing apart brand loyalties, by referring everybody to Jym Nutrition products, and MP Combat Crunch. So, good for protein bar sales there....but bad for everything else there.
I have no idea why Bodybuilding.com is getting so warm on the smallest brands, other than assuming that the shipping cost is uncompetitive for the major brands' products. I have the feeling that repeat customers, demand getting the products very cheap, explaining why whey protein from Cellucor, is doing that well....because you get it for $40 for 4 lbs. Cellucor is doing the same at Costco, underbidding everybody else during promotions, selling 5 lbs of whey protein for only $34.95....which it won't make much money on, after having paid contract manufacturer and for SG and A.
China imports dairy products, including by-products like whey concentrate....so, I wonder why Musclepharm would import the whey protein from China?
It might be that Musclepharm sources whey concentrate from America, Canada and Europe....so how should it make any statement about where it gets it's whey from? Does it make any difference to the quality? is jeff gonna have a conversation in Gaelic with his protein powder?
certain raw materials are most likely entirely sourced from China and India by most supplement companies, like minerals and vitamins.....and possibly many herbal ingredients.
The main ingredient, whey protein, that Musclepharm uses is however of American or European origin....

I'm quite certain that the quality of Musclepharm's whey protein is as high as Optimum Nutrition's....but without the cost advantage of course.
This cost disadvantage is the same to every other company than Glanbia....as no other company got complete vertical integration.

Glanbia makes and sells whey protein in both Europe and America, but it's products don't use any higher or lower quality than any of it's US competitors.....it just got a cost advantage by vertical integration, that's all.

Whenever, you dig deeper into the quality of Musclepharm's products you find out that Musclepharm doesn't compromise with quality. The fish oil that Musclepharm sells is the highest grade from cold water fish (Canada and Norway)...unlike the fish oil that most buy, that comes from Peru.

It really has nothing to do with anything. Not only that, the New York State Attorney General's office is trying to increase consumer protection by dialogue with industry, more than he really is out to fine the industry. You have to listen to what Eric Sneiderman got to say, but not fret anything.
BS! Recently, GNC adopted the strictest quality standards in the World for the herbal supplements that GNC manufactures because of demands from NY's State attorney general, Eric Schneiderman.
Musclepharm, as well as other supplement companies will of course follow this example by GNC, and make sure that the quality of all raw materials/herbal ingredients purchased in the future comply with the strictest standards.
Eric Schneiderman is not really out to harm the industry at large, he just wants that the consumers get what they pay for. He went after Walmart, CVS, Target and GNC's brands....not after Musclepharm or any other independent company in the dietary industry.
